Tecnai G2 Sphera Master the Third Dimension:Fast 3D Data for Life Sciences

Tecnai G2 Sphera is unique in that it can completely　and automatically acquire a tomographic data set within　25 minutes - much faster than any method currently　available. It features an intelligent software package for　the complete 3D tomogrophy solution. From start to　finish: automated data collection, guided reconstruction,　visualization and analysis.

Samples are tilted in the electron beam along a single　axis over an angular range of ±70° and at small intervals　to ensure the highest possible resolution and reconstruction　quality. The 200 kV accelerating voltage of this　transmission electron microscope ensures that even　when the specimen is tilted up to 70°, at which point　the electron beam’s path length is three times the specimen　thickness, the image quality is still excellent. The　software automatically determines changes in x, y and　focus for individual holders during tilting and stores　these values in a calibration file and smartly reuses　when needed to compensate for shifts in x, y and focus　while collecting a tilt series. This allows fast data acquisition　in combination with minimum beam damage.

The software has a high degree of flexibility, allowing　individual users to optimise the procedure for obtaining　their best results. Image data are collected using CCD　cameras and stored on hard disk.
