This International Standard defines type, production and optional tests on thyristor valves used in thyristor controlled reactors (TCR), thyristor switched reactors (TSR) and thyristor switched capacitors (TSC) forming part of static VAR compensators (SVC) for power system applications. The requirements of the standard apply both to single valve units (one phase) and to multiple valve units (several phases). Clauses 4 to 7 detail the type tests, i.e. tests which are carried out to verify that the valve design meets the requirements specified. Clause 8 covers the production tests, i.e. tests which are carried out to verify proper manufacturing. Clauses 9 and 10 detail optional tests, i.e. tests additional to the type and production tests.

This technical report gives general guidance on the subject of active filters for use in highvoltage direct current (HVDC) power transmission. It describes systems where active devices are used primarily to achieve a reduction in harmonics in the d.c. or a.c. systems. This excludes the use of automatically retuned components. The various types of circuit that can be used for active filters are described in the report, along with their principal operational characteristics and typical applications. The overall aim is to provide guidance for purchasers to assist with the task of specifying active filters as part of HVDC converters. Passive filters are specifically excluded from this report.

This International Standard applies to the use of electronic equipment (EE) in power installations where a uniform technical level with respect to safety and reliability is necessary. This standard also applies to EE which are not covered by a specific product standard. This standard defines the minimum requirements for the design and manufacture of EE connected to low-voltage (not exceeding 1 000 V a.c. or 1 500 V d.c.) mains supplies, for protection against electric shock, for testing and its integration into systems for power installations. This standard does not cover the following applications: Electrical accessories and electrical appliances for household and similar purposes, medical equipment, electric railway equipment, data processing without control on systems and processes, public and private non-industrial telecommunication and radio communication equipment and networks, protection relays, residual-current-operated protective devices, uninterruptible power supplies, lighting equipment and public charging equipment for electrical vehicles.

This part of IEC 61243 is applicable to portable voltage detectors, with or without built-in power sources, to be used on electrical systems for voltages of 1 kV to 765 kV a.c., and frequencies of 50 Hz and/or 60 Hz. This part applies only to voltage detectors of capacitive type used in contact with the part to be tested, as a complete device including its insulating element or as a separate device, adaptable to an insulating stick which, as a separate tool, is not covered by this standard (see 4.4.1 for general design). Other types of voltage detectors are not covered by this part of the standard. Some restrictions on their use are applicable in the case of factory-assembled switchgear and on overhead systems of electrified railways (see Annex B, instructions for use). NOTE Except where otherwise specified, all the voltages defined in this standard refer to values of phase-tophase voltages of three-phase systems. In other systems, the applicable phase-to-phase or phase-to-earth ground voltages should be used to determine the operating voltage.

IEC 62310 consists of three parts and applies to free standing a.c. static transfer systems (STS) intended to ensure the continuity of power to load by automatically or manually controlled transfer, with or without interruption, from two or several a.c. independent sources. This part of IEC 62310 concerns general and safety requirements. See future IEC 62310-2 for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and futureIEC 62310-3 for the method of specifying performance and test requirements. This part of IEC 62310 is intended to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons from installed equipment subject to installing, operating, and maintaining the equipment in the manner prescribed by the manufacturer. This part of IEC 62310 includes requirements for the switching elements, their control and protective elements, where applicable. This part of IEC 62310 also includes information for the overall integration of the STS and its accessories into the a.c. power distribution system. Components or devices necessary for the operation/control/protection/isolation (e.g. circuitbreakers, fuses, transformers, etc.) of a STS should comply with the requirements of the relevant IEC standards and are not covered by this part of IEC 62310. This standard applies to systems up to 1 000 V (a.c. value) which are intended to be used in single phase or phase-phase or three phase applications. This standard does not apply to: − devices for d.c. source switching; − static transfer system using only electromechanical switching devices intended to be used in emergency power systems with interruption of the supply to the load during transfer. This equipment is covered by IEC 60947-6-1; − the automatic switching devices integrated into UPS covered by IEC 62040 series. NOTE For STS intended to be used in vehicles, onboard ships or aircraft, in tropical countries, for emergency power systems (such as those used for health care facilities, fire fighting, emergency rescue, etc.), or on elevations greater than 1 000 m, different requirements may be necessary.
