What is ISO 4580 about? ISO 4580 specifies basic dimensions, characteristics and engineering requirements for TORX® PARALOBE® driver bits used with aerospace fasteners. ISO 4580 also includes basic driver bit configuration, inspection, torque test, and torque test procedure. Who is ISO 4580 for? ISO 4580 on basic dimensions, characteristics and engineering requirements for TORX® PARALOBE® driver bits in aerospace fasteners is applicable to: Aerospace fasteners manufacturers Mechanical engineers TORX® PARALOBE® driver bits manufacturers Product designers Why should you use ISO 4580 ? TORX® PARALOBE® is a unique, proprietary drive system with full surface drive contact thus reducing stress at the bit/recess contact points. With this drive system, Acument reports that there is 20% greater bit torsional strength and 20% greater drive system strength than the TORX PLUS drive system, and 40% greater torque strength than the TORX drive system. ISO 4580 walks us through basic dimensions, characteristics and engineering requirements for TORX® PARALOBE® driver bits which as we have seen is superior to the other drive systems used in the market, and hence with the use of TORX® PARALOBE®, you will have an edge when it comes to torque strength and drive system strength. The use of ISO 4580:2021 helps to contribute to UN Sustainable Development Goal 9 which aims to ensure the building of resilient infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization and fostering innovation.

1 Scope This British Standard specifies material, dimensions, characteristics and identification of sintered bronze plain and flanged oil‑retaining bushes and oil‑retaining thrust washers for aircraft use. The bushes are charged with lubricating oil and have a normal oil content of from 25% − 30% by volume, within the size range from 3 / 16 in. (4.8 mm) to 2 1 / 2 in. (63.5 mm) nominal bore. NOTE 1 Owing to slight variations between products of different manufacturers, exact dimensions and limits for diameters are not given in this British Standard, as these dimensions are declared by respective manufacturers. Bushes supplied to this British Standard give correct bores when fitted in housings as specified. NOTE 2 The dimensional values depicted are in inch units and are to be regarded as the standard. Where metric mm equivalents are shown, they have been rounded. More accurate conversions should be based on the tables in BS 350, “Conversion factors and tables”.

The purpose of this Aerospace Information Report (AIR) is to provide the aerospace propulsion industry with recommended assembly torque limits for threaded fasteners when a common torque value per fastener size is the objective. (The fasteners are based on the dimensional data in MA1518). It also provides a series of curves that show the effect of the coefficient of friction on the axial load produced in a fastener, when the recommended torques are applied.

This SAE Recommended Practice provides procedures some procedure for determining shot penning coverage and relating coverage to part exposure to the media stream.. Effectiveness of shot peening is directly dependent on coverage. Either incomplete or excessive coverage may be detrimental to fatigue strength and life.
