1.1 This practice describes the procedure used along with existing test methods to determine the number of constrictions m of mechanically bonded non-woven geotextiles, based on thickness, mass per unit area, and fiber properties 1.2 The number of constrictions is a property of non-woven geotextiles, which is complementary to opening size to predict their filtration behavior. It can be used to differentiate nonwoven geotextiles with similar opening sizes but different structures (thickness, weight, fiber diameter, etc.). However, more research is needed to assess its significance when comparing two products with different opening sizes. 1.3 Consideration of the number of constrictions is relevant in filtration applications where piping or clogging concerns are to be controlled with a high level of confidence, that is, for filter applications in critical soils. 1.4 This standard is for design purposes only and is not intended for quality control purposes. 1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. 1.1 This test method is an index test used to measure the force required to puncture a geotextile and geotextile-related products with a 50 mm diameter cylindrical probe. The dimensions of the probe provide a multidirectional force on the geotextile. NOTE 1—This test is also commonly known as CBR Puncture Test. 1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. 1.1 This practice provides a summary of equipment and procedures for ultrasonic testing of geomembranes using the pulse echo method. 1.2 Ultrasonic wave propagation in solid materials is correlated to physical and mechanical properties and condition of the materials. In ultrasonic testing, two wave propagation characteristics are commonly determined: velocity (based on wave travel time measurements) and attenuation (based on wave amplitude measurements). Velocity of wave propagation is used to determine thickness, density, and elastic properties of materials. Attenuation of waves in solid materials is used to determine microstructural properties of the materials. In addition, frequency characteristics of waves are analyzed to investigate the properties of a test material. Travel time, amplitude, and frequency distribution measurements are used to assess the condition of materials to identify damage and defects in solid materials. Ultrasonic measurements are used to determine the nature of materials/media in contact with a test specimen as well. Measurements are conducted in the timedomain (time versus amplitude) or frequency-domain (frequency versus amplitude). 1.3 Measurements of one or more ultrasonic wave transmission characteristics are made based on the requirements of the specific testing program. 1.4 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. 1.1 This specification covers polyvinyl chloride (PVC) flexible sheeting which is used for construction of concealed containment membranes. Examples are ponds and lakes, canals, reservoirs, landfill liners, covers and closures, or similar installations where the membrane is inaccessible once the construction is complete. Included are requirements for materials and sheeting, test methods, workmanship criteria, and methods of marking. This specification covers unreinforced flexible sheet made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resin as the primary polymer intended for use in geomembranes. This specification covers PVC sheet 0.25 mm through 1.5 mm thickness (0.010 in. through 0.060 in.), typically used for geomembrane linings. 1.2 Reworked materials may be used in this product in accordance with the requirements in Section 5. 1.3 The tests are intended to ensure quality and performance, and are not intended for design purposes. Tests have been selected to be conducted primarily with liquids that simulate the environment to which the membrane will be subjected during actual use. The test and property limits used to characterize the sheet are values intended to ensure minimum quality for the intended purpose. In-place design criteria such as material compatibility and chemical resistance, among others, are factors that shall be considered but are beyond the scope of this specification. 1.4 The values stated in metric units are to be regarded as the standard. 1.1 This practice covers standardized procedures for obtaining samples of geosynthetic clay liners (GCLs) from a test pad for use in assessment of the effects immediately after installation caused only by the installation techniques. The assessment may include physical testing.
