The purpose of this technical report is to describe the optimum methods for sample taking, polishing and etching, with a view to preparing a micrographic surface which accurately represents the sintered metal part, when viewed using an optical microscope. This technical report applies to all sintered metals including those submitted to core or surface heat treatment. It does not apply to hard metals, for which reference shall be made to ISO 4505 and ISO 4499. It can be applied to metal materials containing a substantial amount of non-metallic components (e.g. friction materials and cermets). The special procedures required for these materials are given in 4.6.3. NOTE — The methods described may also be used for the micrographic examination of unsintered powder compacts. In such a case, the procedures should be adapted to the material, e.g. : cleaning (removing pressing lubricant), impregnation, sectioning or cut-off. It is also possible to examine the morphology or the structure of loose compact powder (see 4.4).
Sintered metal materials, excluding hardmetals - Metallographic preparation and examination
Method for the determination of the lubricant content of a powder mix. The method is also suitable for measuring the content of elements such as graphite and oxygen, the determination of which is interfered with the presence of a lubricant.
Lubricated metal-powder mixes - Determination of lubricant content - Modified Soxhlet extraction method

1.1 This specification covers aluminum oxide (alumina) powder in two classes of particle size, two chemical grades, and two levels of acidity, for use as an insulating coating or as an ingredient of ceramic mixtures for components of electronic devices as follows: 1.1.1 Particle Sizes: 1.1.1.1 Class AParticle size No. 500 nominal mesh (nominal average particle size = 24.3 μm). 1.1.1.2 Class BParticle size No. 900 nominal mesh (nominal average particle size = 1.7 μm). 1.1.2 Chemical GradesGrades 1 and 2 as specified under chemical requirements in Section 3. 1.1.3 Acidity Levels: pH (acid) 4.5 to 6.5 and pH (neutral) 6.5 to 7.5. 1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard. 1.3 The following safety hazards caveat pertains only to the test methods in this specification. This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

Metallic powders. Determination of oxygen content by reduction methods. Part 3 : hydrogen-reductible oxygen.
This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition (i. e. ISO 3995:1977). The method subjects a compact pressed form metallic powder to a uniformly increasing transverse force under controlled conditions until fracture occurs. the green strength is determined on compacts either having a particular density or after compaction at a specific compacting pressure.
Metallic powders; Determination of green strength by transverse rupture of rectangular compacts
Powder metallurgy. Metallic powders. Determination of flowability by means of a calibrated funnel (hall flowmeter).
Powder metallurgy. Lubricated metallic powders. Determination of lubricant content by soxhlet extraction method.
Powder metallurgy. Metallic powders. Determination of apparent density by oscillating funnel method.
