This European Standard specifies a method for the determination of selected organochlorine pesticides (OCP), in water samples. The method uses solid-phase extraction with SPE-disks followed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). It is applicable to the analysis of OCPs in surface water containing suspended particulate matter (SPM) up to 500 mg/l (whole water samples), drinking water and groundwater. The lower limit of the working range depends on the matrix, on the specific compound to be analyzed and on the sensitivity of the mass spectrometric detection unit. For compounds listed in Table 1 the limit of determination (LOQ) is at least 30 % of the corresponding AA- EQS value (0,000 15 µg/l to 0,1 µg/l) according to the requirements of the European Quality Standards Directive (Directive 2008/105/EC) for both inland surface waters and other surface waters. This method may be used for the analysis of other OCPs not listed in Table 1 or other types of water. However, it is important to verify its applicability before use.

This European Standard specifies a procedure for the estimation of biovolume of marine and freshwater phytoplankton taxa using inverted microscopy (Utermöhl technique according to EN 15204), in consideration of some heterotrophic protists (< 100 µm) that are not considered in routine zooplankton analysis and benthic microalgae, which can be found in pelagic water samples. This European Standard describes the necessary methods for measuring cell dimensions and for the calculation of cell or counting unit volumes to estimate the biovolume in phytoplankton samples. This shall be done using harmonized assignments of geometrical shapes to avoid errors.

This European Standard specifies a method for the determination of 7 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) in whole water samples listed in Table 1. The method uses solid-phase disk extraction with SPE-disks followed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). It is applicable to the analysis of PAHs in surface water containing suspended particulate matter (SPM) up to 500 mg/l (whole water samples), drinking water and groundwater. The lower and upper limit of the working range depends on the matrix, on the specific compound to be analyzed and on the sensitivity of the mass spectrometric detection unit. The limit of quantification (LOQ) determined in the validation is given in Table 1. The upper limit of the working range is approximately 2000 ng/l. This method is, with some modifications suitable for the analysis of waste water. This method is applicable to other PAH1), provided the method is validated for each PAH.

This European Standard specifies a method for the determination of six selected polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) listed in Table 1, representative for technical brominated diphenyl ethers (BDE) in water samples in mass concentrations >= 0,025 ng/l for each individual congener. The method uses solid-phase extraction with SPE-disks in combination with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). It is applicable to the analysis of PBDE in surface water containing suspended particulate matter (SPM) up to 500 mg/l (whole water samples), drinking water and groundwater. The limit of quantification (LOQ) was determined according to ISO/TS 13530, on the basis of replicate determinations of the procedural blank, carried out under reproducibility conditions. This method may be used for the analysis of other BDE congeners not listed in Table 1 or other types of water. However, it is important to verify its applicability before use.

Diese Internationale Norm legt die Bedingungen für die Bestimmung der Aktivitätskonzentration von Tritium in Wasserproben aus der Umwelt oder von tritiiertem Wasser ([3H]H2O) mithilfe eines Flüssigszintillationszählers fest. Die Auswahl des analytischen Verfahrens, ob mit oder ohne Destillation der Wasserprobe vor der Bestimmung, hängt vom Ziel der Messung sowie von den Eigenschaften der Probe ab. Bei der Direktmessung von Rohwasserproben mithilfe des Flüssigszintillationszählers muss das potenzielle Vorhandensein von Beta-Strahlen emittierenden Radionukliden berücksichtigt werden. Um bei Feststellung solcher Radionuklide Störungen mit diesen zu vermeiden, wird die Tritiumquantifizierung nach der Probenbehandlung durch Destillation durchgeführt. Drei Destillationsverfahren werden in den Anhängen B, D und E beschrieben. Dieses Verfahren eignet sich nicht für die Analyse von organisch gebundenem Tritium. Diese Bestimmung erfordert weitere chemische Aufarbeitung (wie eine chemische Oxidation oder Verbrennung). Unter geeigneten technischen Voraussetzungen kann die Nachweisgrenze bei 1 Bq l-1 liegen. Aktivitätskonzentrationen von Tritium unter 106 Bq l-1 können ohne Probenverdünnung bestimmt werden. Eine vorherige Anreicherung kann die Nachweisgrenze beträchtlich senken.
