The crushing strength aids the pellet producer in the determination of quality problems associated with the production of pellets. The crushing strength is often used by the pellet consumer as a quality indicator for performance in the blast furnace.1.1 This test method describes a method for determining the crushing strength of fired iron ore pellets. Cylindrical agglomerates, briquettes, and reduced pellets are not covered by this test method.1.2 The values as stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standards. The values in parentheses are given for information only.This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. This International Standard specifies the following four test methods for the determination of the hygroscopic moisture content of test samples: Method 1 — Gravimetric method; Method 2 — Karl Fischer volumetric method; Method 3 — Karl Fischer coulometric method; Method 4 — Mass-loss method. Any of these methods is applicable wherever the analytical value of a chemical constituent is to be calculated to a dried sample basis in the following ore types. a) Processed ores containing metallic iron (direct reduced iron). b) Natural or processed ores in which the sulfur content is greater than 0,2 % (mass fraction). c) Natural or processed ores in which the combined water is greater than 2,5 % (mass fraction). Any of these methods is applicable to a concentration range of 0,05 % (mass fraction) to 4,5 % (mass fraction) hygroscopic moisture. NOTE 1 Where the reportable moisture content of a commercial consignment of ore is required, the procedure in ISO 3087 is used. NOTE 2 With natural or processed ores outside the field of application specified in a), b) or c), a determination of a constituent at any level of concentration may be conducted using any of these methods, or as specified in ISO 7764. NOTE 3 Alternatively, the loss or ignition content may be measured as an estimate of the combined water content.

This International Standard specifies experimental methods for checking the bias of sampling of iron ores, when sampling is carried out in accordance with the methods specified in ISO 3082, having as reference a stopped-belt sampling method. It is recommended that an inspection of the mechanical sampling system be carried out before conducting bias testing. Sampling systems not completely in accordance with ISO 3082 are not always expected to be biased. Therefore, bias checking may be done when there is some disagreement about the importance of some departure from the conditions of ISO 3082. If one party argues that the bias is likely to be substantial under some particular set of conditions then bias testing should mostly be done when those conditions apply. NOTE The method for analysis of experimental data described here may also be applied: a) for checking the bias of sample preparation of iron ores, having as reference the methods for sampling preparation according to ISO 3082; b) for checking the bias of size distribution of iron ores by sieving, having as reference the hand sieving methods according to ISO 4701; c) for checking a possibly significant difference in the results obtained from the samples of one lot collected at different places, for example, a loading point and unloading point.
