UIC Leaflet 918-1 describes the regulations and procedures to be observed when exchanging messages between a RU that issues travel tickets and reservation tickets and the electronic system of the RU which manages the necessary data for the issue of these tickets, in particular the inventories of seats available for reservation. It is supplemented by the following two leaflets: UIC Leaflet 918-0 which deals with the general arrangements for electronic seat reservation and the electronic preparation of travel documents; UIC Leaflet 918-2 which describes the standard RCT2 that applies to all the travel documents prepared electronically (the only people allowed access to this Leaflet are the correspondents whose names are on the list held by the UIC Passenger Department) The arrangements contained in these Leaflets enable a RU to reserve seats from an inventory managed by another RU and to issue any travel document (in particular seat reservations and combined tickets) produced electronically from data transmitted by the electronic system of another RU. Note: the term "seat" in this leaflet is to identify the group of services e.g. berth, bicycle, seats, etc. but can also be used to address a seat.

Infrastructure Managers in Europe are required to operate in a neutral and non-discriminatory manner, thereby contributing to the development of a competitive and efficient railway market. In the railway sector, metering points for rolling stock are not connected to the grid in a fixed location - they can move. Given the increasing Iiberalisation of the railway sector in Europe, train movements between different Infrastructure Managers will rise and this demands interoperability. A growing number of traction units are equipped with metering systems for the collection of energy consumption and location data. For cross-border traffic exchanging data is vital to avoid the need to have different metering systems fitted to suit national specifications. The aim of Infrastructure Managers is to be able to account for the costs of traction energy consumed by Railway Undertakings. Railway Undertakings are set to benefit from the collection of this energy consumption data since it will allow them to identify energy saving measures and subsequently reduce their energy costs. In order to fulfil this aim Infrastructure Managers have established a standard for exchanging data, such as energy consumption and location data, from traction units operating in cross-border traffic. This leaflet establishes the necessary framework for the exchange of data for cross-border railway energy settlement. This UIC Leaflet will be adapted to comply with ERA TSI and CENELEC norms.

This International Standard covers high-level safety requirements applicable to automated urban guided transport systems@ with driverless or unattended self-propelled trains@ operating on an exclusive guideway. This standard only deals with the safety requirements needed to compensate for the absence of a driver or attendant staff who would otherwise be responsible for some or all of train operation functions (see Table 1)@ depending on the level of automation of the system (see shaded areas in Table 1 and see 3.1 for a definition of the different grades of automation). The requirements of this standard are restricted to transports systems as defined in Clause 5 and to DTO and UTO as defined in 3.1.4 and 3.1.20@ respectively.

This European Standard specifies the general requirements for the installation of the passenger alarm subsystem. The passenger alarm subsystem is fitted to passenger trains used on national networks including trans- European high-speed and conventional interoperable rail systems. The passenger alarm subsystem includes the passenger emergency brake system. NOTE The passenger emergency brake is sometimes shortened to emergency brake (esp. German: Notbremse) or passenger alarm (esp. English: alarm, French: alarme). The passenger emergency brake can be operated in case of emergency brake demand by passengers or personnel in the train in order to stop the train.

The purpose of this leaflet is to describe the data transmission system used as carrier for international IT applications of railway organisations (RO) and to define the appropriate standards and components. This data transmission system is subsequently referred to as the "HERMES" system. In order to make it possible for the ROs to use the HERMES system and to communicate with one another, it is necessary to make obligatory specifications of the connection characteristics for network access and security, of protocols and functions, of regulations at user level, of message structure etc. These regulations must strictly be observed by all users of the HERMES system, as otherwise any data communication between ROs will be impossible or lead to system breakdowns.
