Key points
• The measurements are run simultaneously and independently on two columns filled with the same Lactose monohydrate
sample.
• All the molecular probes are injected at infinite dilution (ID) conditions, namely at zero surface coverage. The retention
times (tN) of several n-alkanes probes are measured.
• Only at ID conditions the adsorption energy (ΔGa) is directely related to tN by: ΔGa=R.T.Ln(tN.F)+ Cst [1]
with F the carrier flow rate, T the measurement temperature, R the gas constant and Cst a constant.
• The method proposed by Dorris and Gray is then applied in order to determine the dispersive component of the surface
energy ( γ sd ).
