The fenestration industry along with architects/specifiers, engineers and government agencies has recognized the need for a comprehensive specification for blast hazard mitigating fenestration systems. This publication gives manufacturers, architest/specifiers, contractors and building owners a "guide specification" for evaluating these types of systems and provides guidance to those responsible for supplying fenestration systems and services to meet the requirements of blast hazard mitigation. It should be understood that blast mitigation products are intended for reduction of injuries and fatalities of occupants under the defined blast criteria.
This document can be used to specify the requirements for the fenestration system.
NOTE 1: While the performance of the supporting structure is not hte responsibility of the fenestration provider, it is the responsibility of the architect/specifier to ensure that this part of the structure is adequate to take the loads transferred from the fenestration assembly.
The method of installation for a blast mitigating product is as important as the product itself and must be evaluated during the testing and/or structural analysis.
