IEC 60469:2013 provides definitions of terms pertaining to transitions, pulses, and related waveforms and provides definitions and descriptions of techniques and procedures for measuring their parameters. The waveforms considered in this standard are those that make a number of transitions and that remain relatively constant in the time intervals between transitions. Signals and their waveforms for which this standard apply include but are not limited to those used in: - digital communications, data communications, and computing; - studies of transient biological, cosmological, and physical events; - and electrical, chemical, and thermal pulses encountered and used in a variety of industrial, commercial, and consumer applications. This standard does not apply to sinusoidally-varying or other continuously-varying signals and their waveforms. The object of this standard is to facilitate accurate and precise communication concerning parameters of transitions, pulses, and related waveforms and the techniques and procedures for measuring them. IEC 60469:2013 combine the contents of IEC 60469-1 and IEC 60469-2. IEC 60469-1 dealt with terms and definitions for describing waveform parameters and IEC 60469-2 described the waveform measurement process. Other technical revisions include updating of terminology, errors correction, algorithms addition for computing values of pulse parameters, and addition of a newly-developed method for computing state levels. Changes to the definitions include adding new terms and definitions, deleting unused terms and definitions, expanding the list of deprecated terms, and updating and modifying existing definitions.

This part of ISO 8655 specifies the general requirements for piston-operated volumetric apparatus. It is applicable to piston pipettes, piston burettes, dilutors and dispensers. It furthermore defines terms for the use of piston-operated volumetric apparatus and gives user recommendations. ISO 8655 is not applicable to medical products intended for use on human beings, e.g. for medical syringes. NOTE For metrological requirements, maximum permissible errors, requirements for marking and information to be provided for users for piston-operated volumetric apparatus, see ISO 8655-2 for piston pipettes, see ISO 8655-3 for piston burettes, see ISO 8655-4 for dilutors and see ISO 8655-5 for dispensers. Conformity testing (type evaluation) of piston-operated volumetric apparatus is given in ISO 8655-3. Alternative test methods such as photometric and titrimetric methods will be the subject of a future Part 7 to ISO 8655. For all other tests (e.g. quality assurance by the supplier, analytical and measuring equipment quality assurance by the user) see ISO 8655-6 or alternative test methods.

1.1 This terminology is a compilation of definitions of terms used in ASTM documents relating to thermal analysis and rheology. This terminology includes only those terms for which ASTM either has standards or is contemplating some action. It is not intended to be an all-inclusive listing of terms related to thermal analysis and rheology.1.2 This terminology specifically supports the single-word form for terms using thermo-as a prefix, such as thermoanalytical or thermomagnetometry, while recognizing that for some terms a two-word form can be used, such as thermal analysis. This terminology does not support, nor does it recommend, use of the grammatically incorrect, single-word form using thermalas a prefix, such as, thermalanalytical or thermalmagnetometry.1.3 Definitions that are similar to those published by another standards body are identified with the abbreviation of the name of the organization: for example, ICTAC is the International Confederation for Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry.1.4 A definition is a single sentence with additional information included in notes. It is reviewed every five years, and the year of the last review or revision is appended.
