ISO 26262 is intended to be applied to safety-related systems that include one or more electrical and/or electronic (E/E) systems and that are installed in series production passenger cars with a maximum gross vehicle mass up to 3 500 kg. ISO 26262 does not address unique E/E systems in special purpose vehicles such as vehicles designed for drivers with disabilities. Systems and their components released for production, or systems and their components already under development prior to the publication date of ISO 26262, are exempted from the scope. For further development or alterations based on systems and their components released for production prior to the publication of ISO 26262, only the modifications will be developed in accordance with ISO 26262. ISO 26262 addresses possible hazards caused by malfunctioning behaviour of E/E safety-related systems, including interaction of these systems. It does not address hazards related to electric shock, fire, smoke, heat, radiation, toxicity, flammability, reactivity, corrosion, release of energy and similar hazards, unless directly caused by malfunctioning behaviour of E/E safety-related systems. ISO 26262 does not address the nominal performance of E/E systems, even if dedicated functional performance standards exist for these systems (e.g. active and passive safety systems, brake systems, Adaptive Cruise Control). This part of ISO 26262 specifies the terms, definitions and abbreviated terms for application in all parts of ISO 26262.

This part of ISO 6621 defines the most commonly used terms for piston rings. These terms designate either types of piston rings or certain characteristics and phenomena of piston rings. The terms and definitions in this part of ISO 6621 apply to piston rings for reciprocating internal combustion engines. They may also be used for piston rings of compressors working under analogous conditions. NOTE 1 Further terms and definitions covering measuring principles are given in ISO 6621-2. NOTE 2 In addition to terms given in the three official ISO languages (English, French and Russian), this part of ISO 6621 gives the equivalent terms in the German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Japanese languages. However, only the terms given in the official languages can be considered as ISO terms. These have been included at the request of Technical Committee ISO/TC 22 and are published under the responsibility of the member bodies for Germany (DIN), Spain (AENOR), Portugal (IPQ), Italy (UNI) and Japan (JIS).

This part of ISO 7876 establishes a vocabulary and definitions relating to fuel injection pumps for compression-ignition (diesel) engines. It is intended to achieve a universal vocabulary for fuel injection pumps for use in communication and computer control of service parts. It is complementary to ISO 2710. NOTES 1 When the words "fuel" or "injection" are used in the terms listed, "fuel", or both, may be omitted provided there can be no misunderstanding. 2 A defined term appearing in the definition of another term appears in italic followed by the definition reference number.

This SAE Standard establishes terminology and the content of commercial literature specifications for self-propelled crawler and wheeled material handlers, pedestal mounted material handlers and their equipment as defined in 3.1. Illustrations used here are not intended to include all existing commercial machines or to be exactly descriptive of any particular machine. They have been provided to describe the principles to be used in applying this document. (Material handlers share many design characteristics with hydraulic excavators and log loaders; primarily 360 degree continuous reotation of the upperstructure relative to the undercarriage or mounting. They differ in their operating application. Material handlers are used for the handling of scrap material and normally utilize grapples or magnets. Hydraulic excavators are used for the excavation of earth, gravel and other loose material utilizing a bucket. Log loaders are used for the handling of logs and trees and normally utilize grapplers.) The purpose of this document is to establish a uniform method of providing nomenclature for material handlers.

This part of ISO 16232 defines the vocabulary used in the characterization and measurement of particulate contamination of parts, components, sub-assemblies and assemblies constituting the fluid circuits of internal combustion engines of road vehicles. This applies to all components that may come into contact with a liquid (e.g. oil, fuel, air conditioning refrigerant, coolant), a solid lubricant or a gas (intake air). Unless otherwise specified, this International Standard deals with particulate cleanliness only. It does not therefore cover appearance defects or contamination by liquid or gas materials. It covers the amount and the nature of residual particulate contaminants resulting from the whole manufacturing processes and from the environment. NOTE This part of ISO 16232 also covers vocabulary that will not be applied in parts 2 to 10 of ISO 16232. This is in order to complement unified usage of wording in the field of cleanliness of road vehicle components.
