The guideline descripes the introduction of control center for logistics in companies that can be made step by step. So it can be started with the realization of the first basic functionalities (e.g. pure visualization of the current system state). These functionalities can be extended successively by more planning and control functions (metrics, resource monitoring, etc.), until a complete system is implemented. Currently purely passive approaches of monitoring and performance measurement systems are used and have only informative character by the pure representation of the current operating situation. The control center goes beyond this approach. This guideline is for the designing, handling and optimizing the control center functionality to operators, planners and suppliers of intralogistics systems.

This is a shared objective for the private and public sector*. For the private sector, companies have gained experience on measures, which can assist in preventing security breaches from happening, to protect against supply chain interruption. Also some business standards have been developed identifying measures, which companies can execute in order to obtain labels which certify business operations and reward them with a security quality label. The public sector has developed security legislation which companies should either mandatory or voluntary apply into their business operations. This Guide provides an easy-to-read overview on: 1) How SMEs can apply a supply chain security approach to their operations (Clause 2). 2) The main crime types in the supply chain including some measures to fight these crime types from occurring (Clause 3). 3) Supply chain security legislation and programs, with their respective compliance requirements (Clause 4). *In the context of this guide, "supply chain security" covers risk management, crime prevention, security procedures and technologies, as well as security regulations and programs. The overview and examples in this book are based on recent academic work and interviews with experts in the field, including CEN SCS Feasibility Study (2010); EU FP7-LOGSEC Roadmap (2011) and interviews with CEN TC/379 experts.

The term "material scheduling" is used to describe the short-term planning of the supply for production with materials with regard to quantity and time while considering cost criteria. The guideline describes and defines the terms, explains the important parameters and their relationships, and shows an example for the application. Against the theoretical background, a proven system in practice for the disposition of burden materials is presented. The order quantities are determined from the consumption curve and the average consumption per order period. The time of order is based on a minimal inventory. The guideline explains how to monitor contract quantities of suppliers, how to register the need for follow-up contracts in time, how to determine contract amounts and how to calculate timely retrieval proposals.The objective of "material scheduling", hence, guarantees the requested ability to supply while minimizing storage costs and order costs.
