This International Standard specifies methods for testing hydraulic valves which are used for the control of flow or pressure in a circuit in order to determine their steady-state and dynamic performance. Requirements for test installations and procedures, measurements and presentation of results are specified. This Inter-national Standard does not establish limits of performance since the suitability of the valve for its intended purpose should be agreed between the manufacturer and the user. Accuracy of measu rement is divided into three classes (A, B and C) which are explained in annex A. Guidance as to the use of practical units for the presentation of results is given in annex B. Proportional control valves are not dealt with in this Inter-national Standard. Electrohydraulic servovalves are dealt with in ISO 6404.

This International Standard specifies a method for measuring the A-weighted and octave band sound pressure levels, at the operator's position, of noise emitted by portable, hand-held, combustion engine chain saws for use primarily in forestry. The operating conditions during measurement simulate normal operating conditions in the forest. NOTE — This International Standard is based on the general guidelines of ISO 6081; however, to simulate a normal operating situation of a chain saw an absorbing ground is specified instead of a reflecting plane.

This International Standard lays down the conditions of measurement of noise at the operator's position(s) and at other specified locations in the vicinity of different types of machinery and equipment used indoors and outdoors. It also applies to operator positions which are partially or totally enclosed by the machine or are within a cab which may be an integral part of the machine or remote from the machine. This International Standard is applicable to all sources, both moving and stationary, with the exception of transportation vehicles.

This International Standard specifies a survey method for measuring the sound pressure levels produced at specified measurement points by the noise source under test and by a reference sound source. The sound power level of the source under test is calculated from the measured values of the sound pressure level by using environmental corrections. These environmental corrections are calculated from the differences between the values ob-tained with a reference sound source and those given by its calibration. Different microphone arrays and different positions for the reference sound source are given for different acoustical situations, depending on the size of the source under test as well as the size, number and orientation of the reflecting planes which are situated in proximity to the source under test. The positions of the reference sound source also depend on whether it is possible to place the reference sound source on the uppermost outer surface of the source under test.

General This part of ISO 1680 defines a measurement method for rotating electrical machines operating under steady noise conditions, the result of which can be expressed in sound power levels so that all machines tested using this code can be directly compared. This part of ISO 1680 applies to the measurement of airborne noise from rotating electrical machines, such as motors and generators (d.c. and a.c. machines) of all sizes, when fitted with all auxiliaries which are necessary to achieve the agreed operating conditions (see clause 6). This part of ISO 1680 requires the sound pressure levels to be measured on a rectangular parallelepiped surface enveloping the machines from which the A-weighted sound power level produced by the machine is calculated. It outlines the procedures which shall be used to evaluate the test environment and specifies the characteristics of suitable measuring instruments. This part of ISO 1680 applies to measurements carried out in environmental conditions that meet the criteria given in clause 4 and annex A (environmental correction K < 7 Db, correction for background noise < 3 Db).

This International Standard specifies four methods for the determination of the sound power levels of high-frequency noise emitted by computer and business equipment in the frequency range covered by the octave band centred at 16 kHz. They are complementary to the methods described in ISO 7779. The first three methods are based on the reverberation room technique described in clause 5 of ISO 7779 : 1988. The fourth method makes use of a free field over a reflecting plane as described in clause 6 of ISO 7779 : 1988. The test conditions which prescribe the installation and opera-tion of the equipment are those specified in ISO 7779. While the four methods described in this International Standard are particularly suitable for computer and business equipment, they may also be applied to other types of equipment. This International Standard specifies methods for the determination of sound power levels in the frequency range covered by the octave band centred at 16 kHz which includes frequencies be-tween 11,2 kHz and 22,4 kHz. NOTE — The sound power level in the 16 kHz octave band determined according to this International Standard typically is subject to a standard deviation of approximately 3 dB. A method for the measurement of high-frequency hoise is in conformance with this International Standard if it satisfies all the mandatory requirements of one of the four methods described herein and if the information recorded and reported is that specified in Clauses 8, 9 and 10, respectively.

This standard specifies a method for the determination of sound power levels of a noise source by using sound intensity measurements under its normal operating conditions and in situ. The sound intensity distribution is determined on a surface enclosing the noise source under test. The measurement procedure is based on a scanning technique, i.e. continuously moving the intensity probe across the measurement surface after a predefined pattern while the in-strument is integrating. Measurements give the total radiated airborne sound power from a noise source and an indication of the relative strength of the noise radiated from various parts of the noise source. Sound power levels may be determined in one-third octave or octave bands and A-weighted sound power levels may be cal-culated for the purpose of noise control, rating and assess-ment of compliance with the purchase specification. The method allows achievement of an accuracy compatible with engineering grade as defined in 7.6. The standard gives requirements for the acoustic environ-ment, extraneous noise, measurement surface and scanning technique for the intensity measurement. The procedure for calculating sound power from sound intensity is given. The noise of the source under test has to be steady during the total measurement period so that proper time and spatial in-tegration is obtained while scanning over the measurement surface. The measurement of fluctuating and other nonsteady noise sources is thus not covered by the method.

This International Standard specifies a survey method for measuring sound pressure levels of a complete gas turbine installation at specified locations around the installation for the purpose of evatuating environmental noise. It also outlines descriptions of factors inftuencing sound pressure levels around such an installation, which should be taken into consideration when specifications are being drawn up. NOTE — It is not the purpose of this International Standard to give recommendations for the method of catculation of the sound power level of a complete installation, The determination of sound power levels for individual noise sources will be dealt with in a future Inter-national Standard.

This International Standard specifies procedures for measuring and reporting the noise emitted by computer and business equipment. It is based on the measurement procedures specified in ISO 3740, ISO 3741, ISO 3742, ISO 3744 and ISO 3745. The basic emission quantity is the A-weighted sound power level which may be used for comparing equipment of the same type, but from different manufacturers, or for comparing different equipment. The A-weighted sound power level is supplemented by the A-weighted sound pressure level measured at the operator position(s) or the bystander positions. This sound pressure level is not a measurement of total occupational noise exposure of workers (noise immission). Two methods for determining the sound power levels are specified in this International Standard in order to avoid undue restriction on existing facilities and experience. The first method is based on reverberant room measurements (see ISO 3741 and ISO 3742); the second is based on measurements in an essentially free field over a reflecting plane (see ISO 3744 and ISO 3745). Either method may be used in accordance with this International Standard. They are comparable in accuracy and yield the same A-weighted sound power level within the tolerance range of the methods specified in this International Standard.

This International Standard describes a method for determining the exterior noise emitted by earth-moving machinery in terms of the A-weighted sound power level while the machine is in a stationary test condition. At six positions on a hemispherical surface, the equivalent continuous A-weighted sound pressure levels are measured. This International Standard — prescribes a manner in which the noise emission of machinery and equipment shall be expressed for labelling purposes; — prescribes the minimum information to be given in a label attached to the machine or in commercial or technical documents supplied to consumers by the manufacturer. This International Standard applies to machinery and equipment which is essentially stationary in nature. Traffic vehicles are excluded.It applies only to families of machines or equipment for which measurement test codes for the determination of the sound power level exist.

This International Standard specifies a survey method for measuring the noise produced by a stationary road vehicle at a readily obtainable site having specific characteristics. The method is intended to check vehicles in use, and also to determine variations in the noise emitted by different parts of the vehicle under test, which can result from — the wear, maladjustement or modification of particular components, when the defect does not appear by visual inspection; — the partial or complete removal of devices reducing the emission of certain noises. These variations shall be determined by comparing the measurements with reference measurements made under similar conditions, for example during the type approval of the vehicle. This International Standard does not apply to agricultural and forestry tractors for which the measurement of noise emitted when stationary will form the subject of ISO 7217.
