Life cycle assessments - an annotated translation of ISO 14040 and 14044
Environmental management. Life cycle assessment. Data documentation format
This International Standard specifies requirements and provides guidelines for life cycle assessment (LCA) includinga) the goal and scope definition of the LCA,b) the life cycle inventory analysis (LCI) phase,c) the life cycle impact assessment (LCIA) phase,d) the life cycle interpretation phase,e) reporting and critical review of the LCA,f) limitations of the LCA,g) relationship between the LCA phases, andh) conditions for use of value choices and optional elements. This International Standard covers life cycle assessment (LCA) studies and life cycle inventory (LCI) studies. The intended application of LCA or LCI results is considered during the goal and sco
Environmental management – Life cycle assessment – Requirements and guidelines
This International Standard describes the principles and framework for life cycle assessment (LCA) includinga) the goal and scope definition of the LCA,b) the life cycle inventory analysis (LCI) phase,c) the life cycle impact assessment (LCIA) phase,d) the life cycle interpretation phase,e) reporting and critical review of the LCA,f) limitations of the LCA,g) relationship between the LCA phases, andh) conditions for use of value choices and optional elements. This International Standard covers life cycle assessment (LCA) studies and life cycle inventory (LCI) studies. It does not describe the LCA technique in detail, nor does it specify methodologies for the
Environmental management – Life cycle assessment – Principles and framework
The format is mainly designed for data exchange between LCA practitioners but is also for other users of LCA data like data suppliers, reviewers and intended audience. The format focuses on LCI (life cycle inventory) data derived from ISO 14041, Goal and scope definition and inventory analysis. The format supports unambiguous data transfer and does not require that any specific field of the data documentation has to be completed. It is independent of the software platform for the implementation. The draft does not include e.g. graphical or procedural solutions for how data should be presented or treated. It does not describe methodologies for the modelling

A schematic of the sequence of steps involved in development of a LCA is shown in Fig. 1. A life cycle assessment (LCA) consists of four independent elements (see Fig. 1), which have been standardized internationally (ISO 14040 series Standards, 1997-1999). These are: 5.1.1 Definition of goal and scope, 5.1.2 Life cycle inventory analysis (LCI), 5.1.3 Life cycle impact assessment (LCIA), and 5.1.4 Life cycle interpretation. FIG. 1 Overview Process for Evaluating and Reporting Environmental Performance of Biobased Products1.1 Environmental performance shall be measured using the life-cycle assessment (LCA) approach. LCA is a "cradle-to-grave" approach that evaluates all stages in the life of a product, including raw material acquisition, product manufacture, transportation, use and ultimately, recycling (that is, "cradle to cradle" and waste management).1.2 LCAs for biobased products shall be conducted and communicated in a similar manner, including consistent boundary conditions, functional units, environmental indicators, and reporting formats.1.3 This practice is limited to environmental performance metrics and excludes other metrics such as those related to economics and social equity.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
Standard Practice for Evaluating and Reporting Environmental Performance of Biobased Products
This National Standard of Canada is equivalent to International Standard ISO/TS 14048:2002 (first edition, 2002-04-01). 1 Scope This Technical Specification provides the requirements and a structure for a data documentation format, to be used for transparent and unambiguous documentation and exchange of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) data, thus permitting consistent documentation of data, reporting of data collection, data calculation and data quality, by specifying and structuring relevant information. The data documentation format specifies requirements on division of data documentation into data fields, each with an explanatory description. The description of each data field is further specified by the structure of the data documentation format. This Technical Specification is applicable to the specification and structuring of questionnaire forms and information systems. However, it can also be applied to other aspects of the management of environmental data. This Technical Specification does not include requirements on completeness of data documentation. The data documentation format is independent of any software or database platform for implementation. This Technical Specification does not require any specific sequential, graphic or procedural solutions for the presentation or treatment of data, nor does it describe specific modelling methodologies for LCI and LCA data.

Environmental Management Life Cycle Analysis-Data Document Format
