Scope 1.1 These requirements cover valve equipment intended for installation in piping systems to supply water automatically to dry pipe, deluge, and pre-action sprinkler systems for fire-protection service. 1.2 Valves covered by these requirements may be a differential type, latched-clapper type, or a combination of these types. 1.3 The valves covered by these requirements are intended for installation and use in accordance with the following standards: a) Standard for Low-, Medium-, and High-Expansion Foam, NFPA 11. b) Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems, NFPA 13. c) Standard for the Installation of Standpipe and Hose Systems, NFPA 14. d) Standard for Water Spray Fixed Systems for Fire Protection, NFPA 15 e) Standard for the Installation of Foam-Water Sprinkler and Foam-Water Spray Systems, NFPA 16 1.4 This standard does not cover low-differential dry pipe valves or valves with differentials outside of the requirement specified for differential dry pipe valves.

Data collection is of prime importance in fire safety, for several reasons: assessing the effect of any regulation, providing probability and gravity data to fire risk analysis, and the selection of scenarios for examples in fire safety engineering. Statistical data collection of fires is nevertheless collected and analysed from local or national perspectives at the time of publication of this document, making any comparison difficult. A first step identified in the need for harmonization is the issue of terminology. This document defines terminology relating to fire statistical data, in order to supplement ISO 13943 for this specific field of application.

IEC TR 62757:2015(E), which is a technical report, deals with fire prevention measures on converters and their valve halls for high voltage direct current (HVDC) systems, static VAR compensators (SVC) and flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS). It is intended to be primarily for the use of the utilities and consultants who are responsible for issuing technical specifications for new converter valves and valve halls. It concerns fire incidents in HVDC projects using line commutated converters (LCC) or voltage sourced converter (VSC) technology and it is from these projects that most examples of fires and fire incidents are taken. This technical report also addresses converter valves and valve halls for SVC and FACTS. This technical report provides general recommendations to be considered while preparing specifications for these systems. Specific requirements for a particular project need to be clearly specified and mutually agreed upon between the supplier and the purchaser.

This document specifies the requirements for compatibility and connectability assessment of the components of fire detection and alarm systems, fire protection systems and voice alarm systems. This document only includes system requirements when these are necessary for compatibility assessment. This document also specifies requirements for the integrity of the fire detection and fire alarm system when connected to other systems. This document does not specify the manner in which the system is designed, installed and used in any particular application. This document does not cover components or functions which are not included in the fire detection and alarm systems (FDAS), such as functions performed by a building management system. Methods of assessment are specified to permit an acceptable degree of confidence within predetermined operational and environmental conditions to be achieved. The requirements for the transmission path used for a distributed function are covered by a relevant ISO standard and not by this document. This document is applicable to systems where the components are connected to control-and-indicating equipment (CIE) and where the components are interconnected by electrical wires or optical fibre or by radio frequency links or by any combination of these. ISO 7240-25 provides additional information and requirements about systems using radio frequency links. NOTE Other International Standards are expected to cover the requirements of other systems to which the fire detection and fire alarm system is connected.

ISO 7240-23:2013 specifies the requirements, test methods and performance criteria for visual alarm devices in a fixed installation intended to signal a visual warning of a fire between a fire detection and alarm system and occupants in and around buildings. ISO 7240-23:2013 specifies visual alarm devices for three types of application environment. It is only applicable to pulsing or flashing visual alarm devices, for example xenon beacons or rotating beacons. It is not applicable to devices giving continuous light output. ISO 7240-23:2013 is not intended to cover visual indicators, for example, on detectors or on the control and indicating equipment.
