This European Standard specifies requirements for performance and associated test methods for single-user anchor devices which are intended to be removable from the structure. These anchor devices incorporate stationary or travelling (mobile) anchor points designed for the attachment of components of a personal fall protection system in accordance with EN 363. This European Standard also gives requirements for marking and instructions for use, and guidance on installation. This European Standard is not applicable to: anchor devices intended to allow more than one user to be attached at any one time; anchor devices used in any sports or recreational activity; equipment designed to conform to EN 516 or EN 517; elements or parts of structures which were installed for use other than as anchor points or anchor devices, e. g. beams, girders; structural anchors (see 3.3).

1 Scope 1.1 General This Standard specifies design, testing, marking, and information requirements for use of full body harnesses. Full body harnesses are intended for use as body supports in personal fall arrest systems and in other work situations that involve the risk of falling. 1.2 Exclusions This Standard does not cover full body harnesses for use in recreational situations such as mountaineering. 1.3 Stipulation of design This Standard does not stipulate designs for full body harnesses, except insofar as design limitations are necessary to ensure safe and durable service. 1.4 Terminology In CSA standards, “shall” is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; “should” is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and “may” is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard. 1 Scope This International Standard specifies requirements, test methods, marking and information to be supplied by the manufacturer for descending devices. It also specifies some basic requirements for the descent lines to be used with the descending devices. This International Standard is applicable to automatic and manually operated descending devices intended for use in the workplace in access, egress, work positioning and rescue systems. Various types and classes of descending devices are defined according to function and performance. These descending devices can be used in situations other than the workplace if adequate training and/or supervision are provided. This International Standard is not intended to apply to descending devices used in leisure activities such as recreational climbing and caving, although its requirements can be useful in specifying such equipment. NOTE Descending devices conforming to this International Standard can be designed for use by one or two persons simultaneously. For the purpose of classification within this Canadian adoption of ISO 22159, descending device types 2, 4, 5, and 6 are considered outside the scope of this Standard (see Figure 2). All design, test, and other requirements pertaining to these descending device types do not apply.

This European Standard does not specify requirements for descender devices that are used for descending in mountaineering, rope access or work positioning systems.NOTE A descender device which enables the user to rescue himself and which conforms to this European Standard is personal protective equipment (PPE).
