This guideline deals with noise effects caused by road-, railway and air traffic. The ways of dealing with and evaluating of noise effects are described. The knowledge is gathered by the utilization of numerous scientific studies and investigations to this matter. The combined impact of multiple noise sources and the response of affected people, described by means of dose-response relations, have been up-to dated. That guideline provides procedures to determine characteristic quantities in case of impact of multiple sources with regard to annoyance, disturbance, self-reported total sleep disturbance and furthermore approaches for evaluating planning alterna

The purpose of this SAE Recommended Practice is to provide guidelines for selection of transducers, data acquisition systems, and other instrumentation as well as analysis methods to help ensure proper measurement and evaluation of acoustic impulses in automobiles. While this Recommended Practice focuses on automotive inflatable devices, such as, frontal airbag systems, pretensioners, inflatable curtains, side airbags, etc, it can be used for measurement of other impulsive sounds in a vehicle if needed. The objective is to achieve uniformity in instrumentation practice and reporting of test measurements. Use of this recommended practice should provide a bas

If suspended material has to be removed or analysed, filtration at 0,45 µm is recommended. The analysis of the insoluble fraction requires a mineralization step that is not covered by ISO 13161:2011. In this case, the measurement is made on the different phases obtained. The final activity is the sum of all the measured activity concentrations.

This part of ISO 20283 gives guidelines, requirements and procedures for the measurement of vibration generated by types of shipboard equipment, and which can be transmitted into a ship structure as structure borne sound, as part of the factory acceptance test (FAT) of the equipment unit. It specifies the measurements to be conducted for well-defined operating and mounting conditions of the unit, e.g. in the supplier’s test rig. This part of ISO 20283 is a framework for providing representative test results. It is applicable to shipboard equipment intended for passenger ships, merchant ships, yachts and high-speed craft. This part of ISO 20283 is concerned with translational vibration, since rotational vibration is not considered to be a substantial contributor to structure-borne sound. However, it does not provide numerical limits for equipment vibration or transmitted structure-borne sound.

This part of ISO 13473 defines terms, expressions and parameters that are related to the analysis of pavement texture, on roads as well as on airport runways and taxiways. In particular, it defines terms and expressions related to profile representations of texture, which are anticipated to be useful in the modelling of pavement characteristics such as tyre/road noise emission, tyre/road friction, tyre rolling resistance and tyre wear. In addition, some brief general information on pavement surface characteristics and their effects is presented. This part of ISO 13473 also contains some basic requirements in connection with the use of the terms, expressions and parameters. Profile analysis of machined surfaces is not included, since this subject is dealt with in other International Standards, for example ISO 3274, ISO 4287, ISO 4288, ISO 5436-1 and ISO 12085. Profile analysis of road unevenness, which is dealt with in ISO 8608, is also excluded.

This SAE Standard is derived from SAE J2805 and specifies an engineering method for measuring the minimum noise emitted by road vehicles. The specifications reproduce the level of noise which is generated by the principal vehicle noise sources consistent with minimal noise emission in urban traffic. The method is designed to meet the requirements of simplicity as far as they are consistent with reproducibility of results under the operating conditions of the vehicle. The test method requires an acoustical environment which is only obtained in an extensive open space. Such conditions usually exist during: Measurements of vehicles for regulatory certification; Measurements at the manufacturing stage; Measurements at official testing stations The results obtained by this method give an objective measure of the noise emitted under the specified conditions of test. It is necessary to consider the fact that the subjective appraisal of the annoyance, perceptibility, and/or detectability of different motor vehicles or classes of motor vehicles due to their noise emission are not simply related to the indications of a sound measurement system. As annoyance, perceptibility, and/or detectability are strongly related to personal human perception, physiological human condition, culture, and environmental conditions, there are large variations and therefore these terms are not useful as parameters to describe a specific vehicle condition. Spot checks of vehicles chosen at random rarely occur in an ideal acoustical environment. If measurements are carried out on the road in an acoustical environment which does not fulfill the requirements stated in this SAE Standard, the results obtained may deviate appreciably from the results obtained using the specified conditions. In addition, this standard provides an engineering method to assess the performance of external sound generation systems intended for the purpose of providing acoustic information to pedestrians on a vehicle's operating condition. This information is reported as objective criteria related to the external sound generation system's sound pressure level, frequency content, and changes in sound pressure level and frequency content as a function of vehicle speed. As such, these measures can provide pedestrians with information on the location, speed, acceleration, and deceleration behavior of a vehicle.

The purpose of the road test is to check that the standard can be interpreted consistently and leads to a consistent estimate of roughness spectrum when used by different measurers with different instruments. Many of the instructions of the new standard have not been practiced by measurers before and so these are also being tested for practicability and effectiveness. The exercise is not concerned with testing instruments or measurement technology. The standard specifies minimum performance criteria but otherwise is designed to be as inclusive as possible with regard to technology. In order to gain a proper understanding of the practical difficulties and the outcome in terms of consistency of practice as well and results, it was seen as essential that the ‘road test’ should take place in an industrial context, i.e. making measurements with instruments used by the industry on running railway lines having normal constraints of access time and safety procedures, etc.

This European Standard specifies the method for measuring the noise emission, which is a significant hazard of refuse collection vehicles (RCVs). Its goal is to obtain, on one hand, the emission sound pressure level at the operator’s position(s) and, on the other hand, the sound power level of the RCV during waste collection. It specifies a standardized procedure for measurement and later comparison of RCVs noise emission, consisting of four operating conditions: chassis operation, compaction operation, lifting, tilting and lowering operation of a container and dumping of specified waste into the RCV. Together with information concerning other parameters, the test results obtained in accordance with this standard are also applicable to the evaluation of the hazards generated by noise from RCVs. This standard addresses the uncertainties due to measurement procedures. This standard deals with the noise measurement conditions for the types of RCVs defined and described in the standards of the EN 1501 series.

It is well established that rolling noise originates in the combined ‘roughnesses’ of the wheel and rail running surfaces. Through the rolling interaction of the wheel and rail this roughness imposes a time history of relative displacement across the wheel-rail contact that leads to vibration of the wheel and of the track. This vibration, in turn, gives rise to the noise components radiated by the wheel, the rail and the sleeper. The fact that at low (‘normal’) levels, the roughness gives rise to noise radiation linearly and accounts for the noise fully, has been shown by the comparison of theoretical models and carefully controlled measurements [1]. It has furthermore entered the practice of a number of railways to control the roughness, even of uncorrugated, track as a measure to reduce noise. In recent years, in line with the European Union’s strategy for harmonisation of internationally running train services in Europe, new Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSI) have been written for the acceptance testing of new rolling stock. The acoustic TSI reflects the understanding of the noise generation mechanisms [2, 3]. In order to ensure that the acceptance test, that may be made at different locations on different rolling stock, is a fair test of the rolling stock and depends as little as possible on the local track design, the TSI specifies conditions for a ‘reference track’ on which pass-by noise measurements are to be made. The reference track is controlled in terms of the noise produced per unit level of combined roughness and the roughness of the rail head running surface. The first condition is characterised by a minimum decay rate spectrum that must be obtained on the reference track (for how this relates to the noise performance of the track see [4] and to [5] for the method of measurement). The second condition is a limit to the spectral level of rail roughness that may exist on the reference track [6]. To ensure comparable and...(...)...
