This document specifies the requirements for the periodic inspection and testing of welded aluminium-alloy, carbon and stainless steel gas cylinders of water capacity from 0,5 l to 150 l intended for compressed and liquefied gas service under pressure and to verify the integrity of such gas cylinders for further service. It also applies, as far as is practical, to cylinders of less than 0,5 l water capacity and greater than 150 l up to 450 l. This document does not apply to the periodic inspection and testing of acetylene cylinders or composite (fully wrapped or hoop-wrapped) cylinders. It is primarily intended for use with cylinders containing industrial gases other than liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). This document may also be applicable to LPG. Requirements for LPG applications are also provided in ISO 10464.

This document specifies requirements for the inspection and maintenance of valves [including ball valves and valves with integrated pressure regulator (VIPRs)] for: a) refillable transportable gas cylinders; b) cylinder bundles; c) pressure drums and tubes; which convey compressed, liquefied or dissolved gases. This document does not apply to valves for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). NOTE Where there is no risk of ambiguity, gas cylinders, cylinder bundles, pressure drums and tubes are addressed with the collective term “gas cylinders” within this document. This document is applicable to valves reused at the time of the periodic inspection of gas cylinders, cylinder bundles, pressure drums and tubes, and can be applied at any other time, e.g. at a change of gas service (see ISO 11621). This document does not apply to the routine inspection of valves, e.g. carried out at the time of a gas cylinder filling.

What is ISO 11114-5 - Test methods for evaluating plastic liners about?    ISO 11114-5 is an international organisation for standardization that specifies some gas compatibility test methods to evaluate plastic materials suitable for use in the manufacture of composite gas cylinder liners. ISO 11114-5 is also applicable to the evaluation of the suitability of plastic matrix materials used for Type 5 cylinders.   Some fluids like water, used for cylinders testing, can react positively or negatively when in contact with plastic liners. This compatibility issue is not covered by ISO 11114-5 .

This document specifies the construction characteristics, performances and marking related to safety and the rational use of energy of portable, flat gas appliances directly supplied at the LPG vapour pressure, incorporating a gas cartridge complying with EN 417:2012, inserted horizontally in the chassis. NOTE 1 These appliances are referred to in the body of the text as “appliances”. This document covers appliances for outdoor or in well ventilated areas uses only. This document does not cover appliances supplied by an external gas source. For example, the following types of appliances are covered: a) cooking appliances (stoves, barbecues); b) heating appliances. This document specifies the requirements applicable to these appliances or their functional sections whether or not the latter are independent or incorporated into an assembly. Appliances covered by this document are not connected to a flue for the discharge of products of combustion and are not connected to the mains electricity supply. This document covers neither appliances supplied with LPG in the liquid phase nor appliance with fixed integral container which could be refilled by the user. This document does not cover appliances of direct pressure propane category. Requirements for rational use of energy have been considered for stove burners. NOTE 2 However, such requirements have not been considered for the other types of appliances because: - for barbecues, this type of cooking varies according to the type of food and region where the appliance is used; - for heating appliances, all the heat produced is discharged into the environment.

NOTE 1 All these types of receptacles are referred to throughout this document as “cylinders”. This document does not specify any requirements for product, hazard or safety-phrase labelling of packaging which can be required to meet ADR or other legislative requirements. NOTE 2 The marking of cylinders is regulated by RID/ADR which take precedence over any clause in this document. The European Directive on Transportable Pressure Equipment 2010/35/EU [8] includes additional marking requirements (π-marking). For countries that are not members of the European Union, the π marking is replaced by their relevant conformity mark.

This document gives guidance on the selection and evaluation of compatibility between non-metallic materials for gas cylinders and valves and the gas contents. It is also applicable to tubes, pressure drums and bundles of cylinders. This document covers composite and laminated materials used for gas cylinders. It does not include ceramics, glasses and adhesives. This document considers the influence of the gas in changing the material and mechanical properties (e.g. chemical reaction or change in physical state). The basic properties of the materials, such as mechanical properties required for design purposes (normally available from the materials supplier), are not considered. Other aspects, such as quality of delivered gas, are not considered. The compatibility data given are related to single component gases but can be applicable to gas mixtures. This document does not apply to cryogenic fluids (this is covered in ISO 21010).

ISO/TR 17329:2015 provides an inventory, as far as known at time of publication, of manufacturer's identification marks and their assigned radio frequency identification (RFID) codes according to ISO 21007-1 and ISO 21007-2. The listing includes marks of existing gas cylinder manufacturers, as well as cylinder manufacturers which have ceased production in the past, but whose cylinders can still be in service today. NOTE It is intended to revise Annex A of this Technical Report from time to time in order to update the list of codes and identification marks of gas cylinder manufacturers in accordance with the progressing commercial and economic development in the cylinder manufacturing industry. Any request for inclusion or modification of these identifications is to be made to the ISO/TC 58/SC 4 Secretariat, who would update the information in Annex A after consultation with the committee leadership.

ISO 24431:2016 specifies the inspection requirements at the time of filling, and applies to seamless or welded transportable gas cylinders made of steel or aluminium-alloy (Type 1), and for composite transportable gas cylinders (Types 2 to 5 inclusive) for liquefied or compressed gases of a water capacity up to 150 l. It may be applicable to cylinders and tubes with a water capacity between 150 l and 450 l, provided they are inspected and filled as individual cylinders and tubes. ISO 24431:2016 does not apply to acetylene cylinders, bundles of cylinders, tubes, multiple-element gas container (MEGCs) or battery vehicles. ISO 24431:2016 may also be applicable to LPG. For specific LPG applications, refer to ISO 10691. For cylinders manifolded in bundles, refer to ISO 11755.

ISO 11119-4:2016 specifies requirements for composite gas cylinders with load-sharing welded liners between 0,5 l and 150 l water capacity and a maximum test pressure of 450 bar for the storage and conveyance of compressed or liquefied gases. NOTE 1 1 bar = 105Pa = 105N/m2. The cylinders are constructed in the form of a welded stainless steel liner or welded ferritic steel liner or welded aluminium alloy liner and overwrapped with carbon fibre or aramid fibre or glass fibre (or a mixture thereof) in a matrix to provide longitudinal and circumferential reinforcement. The cylinders in this part of ISO 11119 are type 3 fully wrapped cylinders with a load-sharing metal liner and composite reinforcement on both the cylindrical portion and the dome ends. Cylinders produced in accordance with this part of ISO 11119 have a minimum design life of 15 years. Cylinders with test pressure of up to 60 bar have an unlimited design life. ISO 11119-4:2016 does not address the design, fitting, and performance of removable protective sleeves. ISO 11119-4:2016 does not apply to cylinders with seamless liners. For seamless liners, ISO 11119‑2 applies. NOTE 2 ISO 11623 covers periodic inspection and re-testing of composite cylinders.
