This European Standard specifies the minimum fitness for purpose requirements for valves to be used in, or connected to, water supply pipe systems above or below ground (see EN 805), carrying water intended for human consumption. This standard specifies the design requirements, the performance requirements, and the conformity assessment method for valves, whatever their type and materials. This standard applies in priority to any other product or test standard: the requirements from other standards apply only when this standard refers to them. This standard deals with the requirements applicable to air valves with DN up to DN 300 and PFA 6 to PFA 25.

The purpose of this standard EN 1213 is to specify: - the requirements for the materials and the design of stopvalves; - the mechanical, hydraulic and acoustic requirements; - the test methods; - the marking requirements; for copper alloy stopvalves for use with drinking water supply in buildings. This standard applies primarily to copper alloy stopvalves, dimensions DN 10 to DN 100, for potable water supply in buildings up to PN 10 and a distribution temperature of 65 ℃. Occasional excursions up to 95 ℃ are permitted for a period of 1 h maximum. Other metallic materials can be used if it can be verified that they are suitable for the application. This standard applies also to stopvalves in combination with accessories in the same body. This standard does not apply to regulating or servicing valves, designed specially to isolate sanitary tapware or other sanitary appliances.

These requirements cover electrically operated general purpose and safety valves rated 600 volts or less and intended for the control of fluids, such as air, gases, oils, refrigerants, steam, water, and the like. Electrically operated valves, other than automotive fuel valves, covered by these requirements are intended to be used in other than hazardous locations as defined by the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70. These requirements also cover electrically operated valves intended to be factory installed on or in certain appliances as operating or safety controls. These requirements do not cover general purpose valves that are not intended to be used with a flammable or hazardous fluid and are intended only for connection to a low voltage circuit of limited power supplied by a primary battery or a separate external Class 2 transformer. However, if a high-voltage transformer with a low-voltage secondary is incorporated as an integral part of a valve, the assembly is covered by these requirements. These requirements do not cover valves for use in hydraulic fluid power systems. These requirements do not cover valves covered by the requirements in the Standard for Automatic Valves for Gas Appliances, IAS/AGA Z21.21.

This International Standard specifies the constructive and qualitative criteria, test methods and marking for valves having a polyethylene (PE) body and intended for use with PE pipes and fittings for the supply of gaseous fuels. In addition, it specifies some general properties of the material from which these valves are made. It is applicable to bi-directional valves with spigot ends or electrofusion sockets conforming to ISO 8085-3 intended to be used with pipes conforming to ISO 4437 and with spigot fittings conforming to ISO 8085-2. This International Standard covers valves having a nominal outside diameter up to and including 225 mm and for which the service temperature lies between -20 ℃ and +40 ℃. Methods of test are given in normative annexes A to F inclusive.
