This part of IEC 62271 applies to the procedures for handling of gases and gas mixtures for insulation and/or switching during installation, commissioning, repair, overhaul, normal and abnormal operations and disposal at the end-of-life of high-voltage switchgear and controlgear. These procedures are regarded as minimum requirements to ensure the reliability of electric power equipment, the safety of personal working with these gases and gas mixtures and to minimize the impact on the environment. Additional requirements could be given or specified in the operating instruction manual of the manufacturer. For each gas or gas mixture, which is known to be used in electric power equipment at the date of the publication of this document, a separate annex describes specifications, handling procedures, safety measures, etc. For gases or gas mixtures not covered by these annexes the electric power equipment manufacturer should provide the information needed, following the structure of these annexes. Such gases or gas mixtures should also be described in a next edition or in amendments to this edition. NOTE 1 For the use of this document, high-voltage (HV) is defined as the rated voltage above 1 000 V. However, the term medium-voltage (MV) is commonly used for distribution systems with voltages above 1 kV and generally applied up to and including 52 kV. NOTE 2 Throughout this standard, the term "pressure" stands for "absolute pressure". NOTE 3 Reference is also made to (Cigré Brochure 802, 2020). NOTE 4 For further details on gases, e.g. ecotoxicology, also refer to the chemical database ECHA (www.echa.europa.eu), which takes the actual volume band into consideration. NOTE 5 When reference to circuit-breakers is made, only gas circuit-breakers are of interest. When vacuum circuit breakers are of interest, they are explicitly mentioned.

IEC 62271-212:2022 is available as IEC 62271-212:2022 RLV which contains the International Standard and its Redline version, showing all changes of the technical content compared to the previous edition.IEC 62271-212;2022 specifies the service conditions, rated characteristics, general structural requirements and test methods of the assemblies of the main electrical functional units of a high-voltage transformer substation, duly interconnected, for AC voltages up to and including 52 kV on the high-voltage side and service frequency 50 Hz or 60 Hz. The CEADS is cable‑connected to the high-voltage network for indoor and outdoor applications of restricted access. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2016. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition: - clause numbering aligned with IEC 62271-1:2017, - rewording of title and scope of the document, - implement changes on internal arc definition and testing following the evolution of prefabricated substation concept according to IEC 62271-202, - general review of main test procedures such as temperature rise or dielectric test on interconnections, considering control equipment, communication, smart grid devices and integration of components, - general review of installation, operation, safety and maintenance requirements.

IEC 62271-209:2019 covers the connection assembly of fluid-filled and extruded cables to gas-insulated metal enclosed switchgear (GIS), in single- or three-phase arrangements where the cable terminations are fluid-filled or dry-type and there is a separating insulating barrier between the cable insulation and the gas insulation of the switchgear. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2007. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition: a) New numbering in accordance with ISO/IEC directives, Part 2 (2016) and to IEC 62271‑1:2017; b) Clause 3: addition of a definition for plug-in cable termination, filling pressure and minimum function pressure for insulation; c) Clause 7: An additional dielectric type test for plug-in cable termination was added; also a pressure type test as well as a leak rate test on the insulator of a cable termination was implemented; d) Clause 12: New clause about safety practices; e) Clause 13: New clause about influence of the product on the environment; f) New informative Annex A: Mechanical forces applied on the flange of the cable connection enclosure.

IEC/IEEE 62271-37-013:2015(E) is applicable to three-phase a.c. high-voltage generator circuit-breakers, hereafter called generator circuit-breaker, designed for indoor or outdoor installation and for operation at frequencies of 50 Hz and 60 Hz on systems having voltages above 1 kV and up to 38 kV. It is applicable to generator circuit-breakers that are installed between the generator and the transformer terminals. Requirements relative to generator circuit-breakers intended for use with generators and transformers rated 10 MVA or more are covered specifically. Generator circuits rated less than 10 MVA and pumped storage installations are considered special applications, and their requirements are not completely covered by this standard. This standard is also applicable to the operating mechanisms of generator circuit-breakers and to their auxiliary equipment. This standard has been prepared by a joint working group comprised of members both from IEC 17A/WG 52 representing subcommittee 17A: High-voltage switchgear and controlgear, of IEC technical committee 17: Switchgear and controlgear, in cooperation with IEEE WG P62271-37-013 representing the Switchgear Committee of the Power and Energy Society of the IEEE, under the IEC/IEEE Dual Logo Agreement. The contents of the corrigendum of June 2017 have been included in this copy.
