This part of ISO/IEC 11579 specifies a reference configuration (RC) for the extension line of a private integrated services network exchange (PINX) including high level functions in addition to the physical termination system specified in part 1 of ISO/IEC 11579. Since such high level functions appear application dependent and can occur, in principle, in any multiplicity and combination, no firm allocation of functional groupings and thus no firm reference points can be indicated. Instead, the principles for combining functional groupings associated with the physical termination system and allocating reference points are specified in this part of ISO/IEC 11579. Examples for some combinations of functional groupings and the allocation of reference points are given in annex A. The principle is not intended to require any specific implementation of a PINX, but only to provide guidance for the specification of PINX capabilities. The principle is sufficient to support ISDN-like applications. It can be extended to also support non-ISDN-like applications.

This International Standard, specifies supplementary services Call Completion (SS-CC), which are applicable to various basic services supported by Private Integrated Services Network (PISN). Basic services are specified in ISO/IEC 11574. SS-CC consists of two Supplementary services: the Completion of Calls to Busy Subscribers supplementary service (SS-CCBS) and the Completion of Calls on No Reply supplementary service (SS-CCNR). SS-CCBS allows completion of a call to a subscriber that was unsuccessful because of a busy condition and SS-CCNR allows completion of a call to a subscriber that was unsuccessful because the subscriber, although alerted, did not answer. Supplementary service specifications are produced in three stages, according to the method described in CCITT Recommendation I.130. This International Standard specifies the stage 1 and stage 2 specifications of SS-CC. The stage 1 specifications (clauses 6 and 7) specify the supplementary services as seen by the users of PISNs. The stage 2 specification (clause 8) specifies the functional entities involved in the supplementary services and the information flows between them.

Timing within adigital private network needs to becontrolled carefullyto ensure that the rateof occurrence of Slips between PINXs within the PISN,and the public switched networks is sufficiently low not to affect unduly the Performance of voice transmissions, or the accuracy or throughput (if errored data require re-transmission) of non-voice Services. Requirements are also based upon the interconnection of digital private telecommunication networks via digital facilities in the public (switched or not) telecommunication networks. This International Standard is one of a series of technical Standards on telecommunications networks. This International Standard with its companion Standards fills a recognized need in the telecommunications industry brought about by the increasing use of digital equipment and facilities in private networks. lt is useful to anyone engaged in the manufacture of digitalcustomerpremisesequipment(CPE)forprivatenetworkapplications,andtothosepurchasing,operatingorapplying digital CPE to digital facilities for Private Integrated Services Networks (PISN). This International Standard establishes technical criteria necessary in the design of a synchronization plan for a PISN. Compliance with these requirements would be expected to result in a quality PISN synchronization design.

This International Standard specifies the following Identification supplementary services: Calling Line Identification Presentation (SS-CLIP), Connected Line Identification Presentation (SS-COLP) and Calling/Connected Line Identification Restriction (SS-CLIR), which are applicable to various basic services supported by Private Integrated Services Networks (PISN). Basic services are specified in ISO/IEC 11574. Calling Line Identification Presentation (SS-CLIP) is a supplementary service which is offered to the called user and which provides the calling user's PISN number, and possibly a subaddress, to the called user. Connected Line Identification Presentation (SS-COLP) is a supplementary service which is offered to the calling user and which provides the called (connected) user's PISN number, and possibly a subaddress, to the calling user. Calling/connected Line Identification Restriction (SS-CLIR) is a supplementary service offered to a user to restrict presentation of that user's PISN number to another user. Supplementary service specifications are produced in three stages, according to the method described in CCITT Recommendation 1.130. This International Standard contains the stage 1 and stage 2 specifications of SS-CLIP, SS-COLP and SS-CLIR. The stage 1 specifications (clauses 6, 7 and 8) specify the supplementary services as seen by users of PISNs. This International Standard specifies tunnelling of "QSIG" over the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) within a corporate telecommunication network (CN). The tunnelling of QSIG through a public IP network employing SIP is outside the scope of this International Standard. However, the functionality specified in this International Standard is in principle applicable to such a scenario when deployed in conjunction with other relevant functionality (e.g. address translation, security functions, etc.). This International Standard is applicable to any interworking unit that can act as a gateway between a PISN employing QSIG and a corporate IP network employing SIP, with QSIG tunnelled within SIP requests and responses.
