This part of IEC 62315 specifies requirements for digital television (DTV) monitors that use an uncompressed, baseband, digital video interface. These requirements apply to baseband, digital, video interfaces that use the VESA E-EDID Standard for the discovery of supported video formats. This standard also specifies the video formats to be supported by a DTV monitor. The timing requirements for 14 video formats are specified along with requirements for video format discovery. A mechanism allowing a video source to discover the preferred format of a DTV monitor is also described. A digital video interface is not specified in this part; however, it is envisaged that such interfaces will appear in future parts of IEC 62315. NOTE It is recommended that devices using the DTV profiles defined in this document, incorporate a digital content protection system on such interfaces in order to ensure interoperability between devices.

This International Standard specifies methods for indicating the record and/or reproduction error status of broadcast-grade digital VTRs utilizing a Reed Solomon product error correction code. (This code is hereinafter referred to as RS.) This standard also specifies methods of measuring the error rates in record and/or reproduction modes to indicate the error status. The following two indicators are specified herein: Go/No go indicator (hereinafter GNGI) for operational use. Error rate indicator (hereinafter ERI) for maintenance use. Intraframe bit rate reduction is applied to video data prior to recording. This International Standard specifies the content, format and recording method of the data blocks containing video, audio, and associated data that form the helical records on 12,65 mm tape in cassettes. In addition, this standard specifies the content, format and recording method of the longitudinal record containing tracking information for the rotating head associated with the helical records, and also cue audio, and control tracks. One video channel and four independent audio channels are recorded in the digital format. Each of these channels is capable of independent editing. The video channel records and reproduces a component television signal in the 525 line system with a frame frequency of 29,97 Hz (hereinafter referred to as the “525/60 system”) and in the 625 line system with a frame frequency of 25,00 Hz (hereinafter referred to as the “625/50 system”).

This part of IEC 62071 defines the DV-based data structure for the interface of digital audio, subcode data and compressed video with the following parameters: 525/60 system – 4:1:1 image sampling structure, 25 Mb/s data rate; 525/60 system – 4:2:2 image sampling structure, 50 Mb/s data rate; 625/50 system – 4:1:1 image sampling structure, 25 Mb/s data rate; 625/50 system – 4:2:2 image sampling structure, 50 Mb/s data rate. This standard does not define the DV compliant data structure for interface, of digital audio, subcode data and compressed video with the following parameters: 625/50 system – 4:2:0 image sampling structure, 25 Mb/s data rate The compression algorithm and the DIF structure conform to the DV data structure as defined in IEC 61834. Differences between the DV-based data structure defined in this standard and IEC 61834 are shown in Annex A.

This International Standard specifies a digital time and control code for use in television, film, and accompanying audio systems operating at nominal rate of 60, 59,94, 50, 30, 29,97, 25, 24 and 23,98 frames per second. This International Standard specifies a time address, binary groups, and flag bit structure. In addition, the standard specifies a binary group flag assignment, a linear time code transport, and a vertical interval time code transport. This International Standard defines primary data transport structures for linear time code (LTC) and vertical interval time code (VITC). This standard specifies the LTC modulation and timing for all video formats. This standard also defines the VITC modulation and location for 525/59,94 and 625/50 analogue composite and component systems only. NOTE The digital representation of analogue VITC (D-VITC) is specified in SMPTE 266M and is defined for 525/59,94 and 625/50 digital component systems only. High definition formats, such as those documented in SMPTE 274M and SMPTE 296M, should use ancillary time code (ATC) as specified in SMPTE 12M-2 (formerly SMPTE RP 188) for transport of time code in the digital video data stream. For future implementations of time code for digital standard definition formats, the use of ATC rather than D-VITC is encouraged.

This standard specifies the basic methods of measurement for evaluating the electronic and mechanical performances of consumer-use digital VTRs. The formats of open reel VTRs, Beta, VHS, and 8 mm VTRs have been standardized. Methods of measurement for these analogue VTRs have been standardized in IEC 61041-1, IEC 61041-2, IEC 61041-3, IEC 61041-4, IEC 61041-5, and IEC 61146-3. Digital VTR 6,35 mm DV format and 12,65 mm D-VHS format have now been brought on the market. The methods of measurement for these consumer-use digital VTRs should be specified and standardized. With these measurement techniques, some items for the evaluation of performances specific to digital VTRs have also been included. There are two objectives for the proposed methods of measurement. One is to check the interchangeability and characteristics of the equipment under test which are indispensable to manufacturers, and the other is to evaluate the quality of image and sound, which concerns the customer. The latter is a priority for consumer satisfaction. Since a consumer can use only general-purpose instruments, any test which needs dismantling of apparatus and requires special instruments is in principle not specified. As error rate is important for digital equipment, an example of a method for measuring error rate is given in annex A.

This part of IEC 61966 is applicable to the encoding and communication of YCC colours used in video systems and similar applications by defining encoding transformations for use in defined reference capturing conditions. IEC 62889:2015(E) describes a serial digital interface, gigabit video interface (GVIF) for the interconnection of digital video equipment. The GVIF is primarily intended to carry high-speed digital video data for general usage and is well suited for multimedia entertainment systems in a vehicle. It specifies the physical layer of the interface including transmission line characteristics and electrical characteristics of transmitter and receiver. Mechanical and physical specifications of connectors are not included.

This part of IEC 61834 is an extension of the SD specification (SD mode) and covers the features necessary to enable a DVCR to record and reproduce PALplus signals. While all DVCRs must have the capability of recording and/or playback in SD (SP) mode, PALplus capability is optional. For this Part 8, the data structure of a track is defined by APT = 000b which consists of four areas as described in 4.3.2 in IEC 61834-1 and AP1 = AP2 = AP3 = 000b. There are two methods for recording the PALplus signal on a DVCR: - method 1: record the partially encoded PALplus signal; - method 2: record the completely decoded PALplus signal. This part is concerned with "Method 1" (baseband helper recording) as this requires an extension to the DVCR SD specification IEC 61834-2. For "Method 2" the DVCR is equipped with a built-in PALplus decoder and the SD specification IEC 61834-2 applies unchanged.
