This International Standard specifies a method for the determination of rubber-to-fabric adhesion under direct tension. It is only suitable when the material to be tested is substantially uniform in thickness and flat or sufficiently flexible to be maintained flat under light pressure. It is particularly suitable for materials having a very thin rubber layer which are difficult to test by stripping or peeling methods. However it should be noted that the results obtained by this method will not necessarily correlate with those obtained by a stripping test such as that described in ISO/R 36, Determination of the adhesion strength of vulcanized rubbers to textile fabrics.

This International Standard specifies the requirements for water vapour permeable and non water vapour permeable coated fabrics suitable for use in the construction of water penetration resistant clothing. This standard does not address the method of fabrication of the garment. However, the physical requirements attributed to water penetration resistance of the final garment should in no way be inferior to those listed for the coated fabric. NOTE The coding system applicable to the coating polymer(s) employed in the manufacture of these coated fabrics is given in Table 1.

This International Standard specifies two methods of evaluating the resistance to combined shear flexing and rubbing of rubber- or plastics-coated fabrics. Rubbing is either forced by application of a pressure foot (method A), or is caused by simple contact between the faces of the test pieces (method B). Method B (without application of the pressure foot) is preferred in all cases where the foot would damage the test piece through an abrasive effect where this is not required, e.g. materials with sticky surfaces, light coatings such as polyurethanes on rough surfaces. The test may be carried out on products as delivered or after pre-treatments such as wetting or accelerated ageing. NOTE The results obtained using method A and method B cannot be compared as there is no correlation between the two methods.

1.1 This International Standard specifies a procedure for determining the lowest temperature at which fabrics coated with rubber or plastics will not exhibit fractures or coating cracks when subjected to specific impact conditions. 1.2 Fabrics coated with rubber or plastics are used in many applications involving low-temperature flexing with or without impact. Data obtained by this method may be used to predict the behaviour of these coated fabrics at low temperatures only in the applications in which the conditions of deformation are similar to those specified in the method.

This international Standard specifies a method for determining the ability of fabrics coated with rubber or plastics to resist the effect of low temperature when subjected to bending at specified temperatures after definite periods of exposure. It is applicable to material with a thickness within the range 0,1 mm to 2,2 mm. For materials of greater thickness than this, modifications to the standard equipment are necessary (see 8.2, third paragraph). Because fabrics coated with rubber or plastics are used in different applications requiring lowtemperature flexing, no general relationship between this test and service performance can be given or implied.

This International Standard specifies two methods for determining, by measurement of the transmission rate, the permeability of rubber to volatile liquids diffusing into open air. It is applicable only to materials in sheet form and to coated fabrics having thicknesses between 0,2 mm and 3,0 mm. It is restricted to transmission rates of more than 0,1 g/m2·h. The methods are particularly useful for comparing the relative transmission rates of one liquid through different materials, or of several liquids through one material. Method A, with refilling, is used when testing mixtures of liquids which give different transmission rates. Method B, with no refilling, is used for a single-component liquid. This International Standard specifies a method of test for measuring the force required to separate, by stripping, two plies of fabric bonded with rubber, or a rubber layer and a fabric ply bonded together. The method is applicable when the ply surfaces are approximately plane or when they are in the form of a cylinder having an internal diameter greater than approximately 50 mm. The method is not applicable when the ply surfaces contain sharp bends, angles or other gross irregularities which cannot be excluded when cutting out test pieces. This International Standard specifies two methods (methods 1 and 2) of evaluating the resistance of fabrics coated with plastics or with vulcanized rubber to the action of liquids by measurement of selected properties of the materials before and after immersion in selected liquids. The difference between the two methods is as follows: — In method 1, excess liquid is removed from the test pieces, after immersion, by wiping. — In method 2, the test pieces are immersed in a volatile liquid and excess liquid is subsequently removed by drying in an oven.
