This International Standard specifies a method for the determination of rubber-to-fabric adhesion under direct tension. It is only suitable when the material to be tested is substantially uniform in thickness and flat or sufficiently flexible to be maintained flat under light pressure. It is particularly suitable for materials having a very thin rubber layer which are difficult to test by stripping or peeling methods. However it should be noted that the results obtained by this method will not necessarily correlate with those obtained by a stripping test such as that described in ISO/R 36, Determination of the adhesion strength of vulcanized rubbers to textile fabrics.

1.1 These test methods cover the testing of coated and laminated fabrics made primarily for use in fabric roof systems. These coated and laminated fabrics are generally in either an air supported or tension supported construction of fabric roof systems. 1.2 These methods can be used for most fiber-based, coated and laminated architectural fabrics. 1.3 This standard includes the following sections that provide test procedures for coated and laminated architectural fabrics: Section Fabric Count 8 Mass per Unit Area 9 Fabric Thickness 10 Fabric Width 11 Fabric Length 12 Fabric Bow 13 Adhesion of Coating to Fabric 14 Uniaxial Elongation Under Static Load 15 Fabric Breaking Force 16 Breaking Strength After Crease Fold 17 Elongation at Break 18 Fabric Trapezoid Tear Force 19 Resistance to Accelerated Weathering 20 Solar Optical Properties 21 Fabric Flame Resistance 22 Noise Reduction Coefficient 23 1.4 These test methods include only testing procedures and do not include specifications or tolerances. They are intended as a guide for specifications. Any of these methods may be used in material specifications to evaluate requirements for a specific end use as related to a particular job. 1.5 The values stated in either SI or inch-pound units are to regarded separately as the standard. Within the text, the inch-pound units are shown in parentheses. The values stated in each system are not exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. 1.6 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. 5.1 Abrasion resistance tests are intended to measure the wear resistance properties of a material. This may be correlated to expected end use performance. 5.2 The resistance of coated fabrics to abrasion, as measured on a testing machine in the laboratory, is generally only one of several factors contributing to wear performance or durability as experienced in the actual use of the material. While abrasion resistance (often stated in terms of the number of abrasion cycles) and durability are frequently related, the relationship varies with different end uses and different factors may be necessary in any calculation of predicted durability from specific abrasion data. This test method provides a comparative ranking of material performance, which can be used as an indication of relative end-use performance. 5.3 The resistance of coated fabrics to abrasion may be affected by factors including test conditions, type of abradant, pressure between the specimen and abradant, mounting or tension of the specimen, and type, kind, or amount of finishing materials. 5.4 The measurement of the relative amount of abrasion may also be affected by the method of evaluation and may be influenced by the judgment of the operator. 1.1 This test method covers the determination of the wear resistance of fabrics coated with rubber or plastics to abrasion. The abrasion is measured by mass loss or number of cycles required to wear through the coating to initially expose the base fabric. 1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard.
