The flows of liquid fuels shall be capable of being Interrupted by means of safety shut-off devices, which, for example, are designed as automatic valves or fast closing devices. Their reliability shall be proven by type tests according to this standard. Other test methods may be allowed where necessary. 1.2 Field of application This European standard comprises safety requirements and test methods for safety shut-off devices 1n combustion plants, which on opening release, with or without delay, the flow of the fuels mentioned below and shut off without delay on clo-sing. This standard applies to the use of fuel oils. For other liquid fuels the test methods may be agreed between the manufacturer and the test institute. This standard also applies to safety shul-off devices forming part of devices having other functions, i.e. oil pumps. This European Standard specifies the test requirements and methods for laboratory testing of atomizing oil burners of the monobloc type, with a flow rate m ≤ 100 kg/h and supplied with a fuel having a viscosity at the burner input point of (5,5 ± 0.5) mm2/s at 20 °C. These tests are normally carried out in the combustion chambers defined in paragraph 6.3. In certain special cases, however, they may be carried out in the equipment for which the burner has been specifically designed. These test methods are not applicable to burners which are part of a burner-heat exchanger combination constituting a heat generator, as 1n that case it is the whole assembly which is tested. A monobloc type burner is an assembly of components, which allows the supply and atomization of the fuel, flame supervision and adjustment of operation to take place. These component parts are either fitted together and mounted on the same equipment, or are supplied together 1n the same casing. These elements comprise, for example, a fuel pump, an atomizing device, a combustion air fan, an ignition device, a flame supervision device, a burner motor, an oil preheating device. The assembly is accordingly listed by the manufacturer.

This European Standard determines the requirements, operating conditions and test methods for safety, control and regulation devices for automatic and semiautomatic atomizing burners of the monobloc type for burning distillates and residual fuels, in the range from kerosene to. heavy fuel oils. It also applies to dual fuel burners, for use with either oil or gaseous fuels, when operating on oil. It does not however give any requirement relating to electrical safety which will be dealt with 1n the publications of other standardization bodies.

This International Standard specifies a method for the photometric determination of amounts of arsenic in hard coal, brown coal and lignite and coke using the silver diethyldithiocarbamate method in accordance with ISO 2590. The method is applicable to the determination of arsenic (As) contained either in all the test solution or in the aliquot portion taken for the determination of between 1 and 20 μg corresponding to not less than 1 ppm in the test portion.

This International Standard specifies a method for the determination of the gross calorific value of a solid fuel at constant volume in an adiabatic, an isothermal, or a static bomb calor imeter. The result obtained by this method is the gross calorific value of the analysis sample at constant volume, the water of the combustion products being condensed to liquid at the calorimeter temperature. In practice, fuel is burned at constant (atmospheric) pressure and the water is not condensed but is removed, as vapour, with the flue gases. Under these conditions, the operative heat of combustion is the net calorific value of the fuel at constant pressure The net calorific value at constant volume may also be used, tormulae for calculating both values are given.
