1.1 This specification covers three types and five strength grades of high-strength low-alloy, hot rolled structural steel plate for use in truck frames, brackets, crane booms, rail cars, and similar applications. Steels that conform to this specification offer improved formability. These steels are normally furnished in the as-rolled condition. The type and strength grade furnished is as agreed upon between the manufacturer and the purchaser. The types and strength grades are shown in the tables. 1.2 The maximum thickness of plates shall be as follows: Grade Plate Thickness, max, in. [mm] 50 2 [50] 60 11/2 [40] 70 1 [25] 80 1 [25] 100 1/2 [13] 1.3 The values stated in either inch-pound units or SI units are to be regarded as standard. Within the text, the SI units are shown in brackets. The values stated in each system are not exact equivalents; therefore, each system must be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in nonconformance with this specification. See Appendix X3 of Specification A6/A6M for information on weldability. 1.4 For plates produced from coil and furnished without heat treatment or with stress relieving only, the additional requirements, including additional testing requirements and the reporting of additional test results, of Specification A6/A6M apply.

1.1 This specification2 covers a group of general requirements that, unless otherwise specified in the purchase order or in an individual specification, shall apply to rolled steel plate, sheet, and strip, under each of the following specifications issued by ASTM: Specifications A167, A176, A240/A240M, A263, A264, A265, A666, A693, A793, and A895. 1.2 In the case of conflict between a requirement of a product specification and a requirement of this specification, the product specification shall prevail. In the case of conflict between a requirement of the product specification or a requirement of this specification and a more stringent requirement of the purchase order, the purchase order shall prevail. The purchase order requirements shall not take precedence if they, in any way, violate the requirements of the product specification or this specification; for example, by waiving a test requirement or by making a test requirement less stringent. 1.3 The values stated in either inch-pound units or SI units are to be regarded separately as standard. Within the text, the SI units are shown in brackets, except that when A480M is specified, Annex A3 shall apply for the dimensional tolerances and not the bracketed SI values in Annex A2. The values stated in each system are not exact equivalents; therefore, each system must be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in nonconformance with the specification. 1.4 This specification and the applicable material specifications are expressed in both inch-pound and SI units. However, unless the order specifies the applicable “M” specification designation [SI units], the material shall be furnished in inch-pound units.

1.1 This specification covers the general requirements for steel sheet in coils and cut lengths. It applies to the following specifications that describe carbon steel, structural steel, and high-strength, low-alloy steel (HSLA) furnished as hot-rolled sheet and cold-rolled sheet: Specifications A414/A414M, A424, A606, A659/A659M, A794, A1008/A1008M, A1011/A1011M, and A1039/A1039M. 1.2 This specification is not applicable to hot-rolled heavy-thickness carbon sheet coils (Specification A635/A635M). 1.3 In case of any conflict in requirements, the requirements of the individual material specification shall prevail over those of this general specification. 1.4 For the purposes of determining conformance with this and the appropriate product specification referenced in 1.1, values shall be rounded to the nearest unit in the right hand place of figures used in expressing the limiting values in accordance with the rounding method of Practice E29. 1.5 Annex A1 lists permissible variations in dimensions and mass (see Note 1) in SI [metric] units. The values listed are not exact conversions of the values listed in the inch-pound tables, but instead are rounded or rationalized values. Conformance to Annex A1 is mandatory when the “M” specification is used. Note 1—The term weight is used when inch-pound units are the standard. However, under SI the preferred term is mass. 1.6 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the standard. 1.7 This specification and the applicable material specifications are expressed in both inch-pound units and SI units. 1.1 This specification covers the detailed requirements to which flat-rolled thin-gauge nonoriented fully processed electrical steel shall conform. Nominal thicknesses included in this specification are 0.004 in. (0.10 mm) to 0.012 in. (0.30 mm). 1.1.1 Refer to Specification A677 for properties of flat-rolled nonoriented fully processed electrical steel in nominal thicknesses of 0.014 in. (0.36 mm) to 0.025 in. (0.64 mm). 1.1.2 Refer to Specification A876 for properties of flat-rolled grain-oriented fully processed electrical steel. 1.1.3 Thin-gauge nonoriented electrical steels with a high silicon content (typically 61/28201;%) manufactured using silicon vapor-deposition or similar processes are not included in this specification. 1.2 The steel covered in this specification is produced to specified maximum core loss values and is intended primarily for use in rotating electrical machinery and other electromagnetic devices operating at moderate to elevated frequencies (100 Hz and greater). Desirable core loss and permeability characteristics are developed during mill processing; however, lamination manufacturing processes may adversely affect these mill-produced properties. Additional stress-relief heat treatment by the user may therefore be helpful in remediating these properties in the manufactured laminations. Stress-relief annealing is discussed further in Appendix X2. 1.3 These thin-gauge nonoriented fully processed electrical steels are low-carbon, silicon-iron, or silicon-aluminum-iron alloys typically containing 2.5 to 3.58201;% silicon and a small amount of aluminum. 1.4 The values stated in customary (cgs-emu and inch-pound) units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units which are provided for information only and are not considered standard. 1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. 1.1 This specification covers cold-rolled carbon steel strip in cut lengths or coils, furnished to closer tolerances than cold-rolled carbon steel sheet, with specific temper, with specific edge or specific finish, and in sizes as follows: Width, in. Thickness, in.     Over 1/2 to 2315/16  0.300 and under Over 12.5 to 600 mm 7.6 mm and under 1.2 Cold-rolled strip is produced with a maximum specified carbon not exceeding 0.25 percent. 1.3 Strip tolerance products may be available in widths wider than 2315/16 in. [600 mm] by agreement between purchaser and supplier. However, such products are technically classified as cold rolled sheet. The tolerances, finishes, tempers, edges, and available widths and thicknesses differentiate cold rolled strip from the product known as cold rolled sheet which is defined by Specification A568/A568M and from cold rolled high carbon strip which is defined by Specification A682/A682M. 1.4 For the purpose of determining conformance with this specification, values shall be rounded to the nearest unit in the right hand place of figures used in expressing the limiting values in accordance with the rounding method of Practice E29. 1.5 The SI portions of the tables contained herein list permissible variations in dimensions and mass (see Note 1) in SI (metric) units. The values listed are not exact conversions of the values listed in the inch-pound tables, but instead are rounded or rationalized values.
