This part of ISO 7267 specifies a method for the determination of the apparent hardness of vulcanized rubber roller covers, expressed in Shore hardness, for measurement where only medium precision is required. The method and apparatus used are essentially those described in ISO 7619, the measurements in this case being made on the curved surface of the conditioned rubber covered roller rather than on a flat test piece. Shore- type A and D instruments are specified, the latter being used for measurements on rollers of high hardness.

This part of ISO 7267 specifies a method for the determination of the apparent hardness of vulcanized rubber roller covers, expressed in international rubber hardness degrees (IRHD). The method is similar in principle to the methods used for the determination of the hardness of rubber vulcanizates in ISO 48, ISO 1400 and ISO 1818 in that it consists essentially of measuring the depth of penetration of a spherical indentor operating under a specified force. The apparatus used is similar to that described in ISO 48, ISO 1400 and ISO 1818, differing only in that the base is designed specifically for application to roller covers and similar curved surfaces.

This International Standard specifies three methods for deter-mining the resistance of the outer covers of hoses to ozone: method 1 - for bore sizes up to and including 25 mm carried out on the hose itself; method 2 - for bore sizes greater than 25 mm carried out on a test piece from the hose wall; method 3 - for bore sizes greater than 25 mm carried out on a test piece from the cover. Methods 1 or 2 should normally be used. Method 3 should be used only if it is not possible to carry out the test in accordance with method 2. NOTE — For hoses with built-in fittings from which it is not possible to take test pieces, the ozone resistance may be assessed on slabs in accordance with ISO 1431/1, using test sheets of the appropriate polymeric compound vulcanized to the same degree.

This International Standard specifies two methods for the determination of the behaviour of rubber or plastics hoses or tubing when bent to a specified radius. Method A is suitable for hoses and tubing of bore sizes up to about 80 mm; the size of the apparatus for testing hoses and tubing of larger bore sizes becomes excessive. The method also provides a means of measuring the force required to reach a specified bend radius, and the test may be carried out at a specified internal pressure. In method B, the bending characteristics, including the force required for bending, may be determined over a range of temperatures from -60 °C to +200 °C. The nature of the apparatus, however, limits its applicability to hoses and tubing of small bore sizes, i.e. up to about 12,5 mm.

This International Standard specifies a method for the determination of the abrasion resistance of the outer cover of rubber hoses. This method is intended primarily for testing hydraulic hoses having textile or wire reinforcement and a nominally smooth and parallel cover, and other hoses of a similar type. The method is not intended for predicting product abrasion life, but is suitable for the comparison of quality levels. This International Standard does not specify the number of cycles which should be completed in each test; this number will be specified in the appropriate product specification.
