This part of ISO 14526 specifies the requirements for the physical and chemical properties of phenolic powder moulding compounds (PF-PMCs) and compression- or injection-moulded test specimens produced from them. This part of ISO 14529 does not provide engineering data, performance data or data on processing conditions which may be required to specify a material for a particular application and/or method of processing. If such additional properties are required, they shall be determined in accordance with the test methods specified in ISO 14529-2, if suitable. 1.5 Whenever general requirement data, as covered by ISO 14529-3, need to be indicated, this is also done using this data block system. 1.6 To ensure that code-letters and code-numbers remain unambiguous, and to avoid conflicts within the system, any new code-letters or code-numbers for use in data block 1, 2 or 3 shall be approved before use by the secretariats of ISO/ТС 61/SC 1, SC 12 and SC 13.

Epoxy resins are a family of synthetic resins, including products, which range from viscous liquids to high-melting solids. The resin molecule contains as reactive sites one or more oxirane or epoxy groups, usually in the form of a glycidyl group. The most commercially important resin is the glycidyl ether of bisphenol A, produced by the condensation of epichlorohydrin and diphenylpropane (bisphenol A). Epoxy resins with different characteristics are also produced commercially by reacting epichlorohydrin with other materials. To be of use, the resins must be crosslinked with a curing agent or hardener. The choice of curing agent is of importance in designing an epoxy resin system for a given application. The major reactive groups in the resin, the epoxy and the hydroxyl groups, react with many other groups so that many types of chemical substance can be used as curing agents. These include acid anhydrides, aliphatic and aromatic amines and polyaminoamides. Some curing agents will crosslink the resin at ambient temperatures while others require the application of heat. This International Standard provides an overview of the ISO test methods used to characterize epoxy resins. The listed property to be determined in any given case depends on agreement between the supplier and customer.

This part of ISO 10724 specifies the general principles to be followed when injection moulding test specimens of thermosetting powder moulding compounds (PMCs) and gives details of mould designs for preparing one type of specimen for use in establishing reproducible moulding conditions. Its purpose is to promote uniformity in describing the main parameters of the moulding process and also to establish uniform practice in reporting moulding conditions. The particular conditions required for the reproducible preparation of test specimens which will give comparable results will vary for each material used. These conditions are given in the International Standard for the relevant material or are to be agreed upon between interested parties. NOTE ISO round-robin tests with phenolic (PF), urea-formaldehyde (UF), melamine (MF), melamine phenolic (MP) and unsaturated-polyester (UP) injection-moulding materials have shown that mould design is an important factor in the reproducible preparation of test specimens

5.1 The gel (fisheye) in PVC resins is generally recognized as a hard particle of resin which will not fuse when the plastic mass is subjected to set conditions of hot processing. The number of unfused particles present is related to the conditions used. The presence of an excess of such particles is detrimental to many applications. 1.1 This practice provides a quantitative measure of the gels remaining in a flexible vinyl compound processed from general-purpose poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) resins under a prescribed set of working conditions. 1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. The values in parentheses are for information only. 1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety problems, if any, associated with its use.
