This European Standard specifies detailed functional requirements for the commissioning, operation and maintenance of - industrial gas installations and assemblies with an operating pressure greater than 0,5 bar and of - non-industrial installations (residential and commercial) with an operating pressure greater than 5 bar, starting from the outlet of the network operator""s point of delivery up to the inlet connection to the gas appliance; normally the inlet isolation valve. This European Standard also covers the inlet connection to the gas appliance comprising of the pipework that does not fall within the scope of the appliance standard. This standard appl

This technical report gives details of a general scheme for the classification of such appliances according to the method of evacuating the products of combustion. It must be stressed thatThis scheme only concerns gas appliances that are intended to be installed within buildings. It does not apply to outdoor appliances. Nevertheless, it is recognised thatThis appliance classification scheme could be utilised in other circumstances. For example, in the case of: a) Appliances capable of utilising heating oil or kerosene, and b) Gas appliances intended for installation in a partially protected location external to a building. This form of appliance classification is widely used in the preparation of European Standards for gas appliances to identify the requirements and methods of test that are applicable to the various methods of evacuating the products of combustion. Appliances classified inThis way are generally described as "types" andThis description has been retained for the purposes of this general scheme. The main purpose of the scheme is to promote harmonization in the classification of appliance types. This should ensure that there is a clear understanding of the various appliance types and will avoid confusion arising from Technical Committees describing them in different ways. CEN Technical committees are therefore requested to useThis scheme in all circumstances in which it is appropriate. They should not deviate from it unless there are sound technical reasons for so doing. In the preparation of this scheme it was noted that there were methods of evacuating products of combustion that were particular to a specific Technical Committee or to a particular gas appliance. These particular methods have not been included in the present scheme because, as indicated above, the main purpose of the scheme is to promote harmonization across Technical Committees. However, it is intended thatThis scheme should be reviewed from time to time in order to consider its extension to other, possibly new, methods of evacuating products of combustion. At that time, such specific methods of evacuating products of combustion may be included at the request of the Technical Committees concerned.

This European Standard specifies requirements and tests for the construction, performance and safety of class 1,0 and class 1,5 battery powered ultrasonic gas meters (hereinafter referred to as meters), having co-axial single pipe, or two pipe connections, used to measure volumes of distributed fuel gases of the second and/or third family, as given in EN 437, at maximum working pressures not exceeding 0,5bar1) and maximum actual flow rates of up to 10 m3/h over a minimum ambient temperature range of -10 ~C to +40 ~C, and minimum gas temperature span of 40 K, for domestic applications. This European Standard applies to meters where the measuring element and the register(s) are enclosed in the same case. This European Standard applies to meters with and without built-in temperature conversion, that are installed in locations with vibration and shocks of Iow significance and in -- closed locations (indoor or outdoor with protection as specified by the manufacturer) with condensing or with non-condensing humidity or, if specified by the manufacturer, open locations (outdoor without any covering) with condensing humidity or with non-condensing humidity and in locations with electromagnetic disturbances. Unless otherwise stated, all pressures given in this European Standard are gauge pressures. When more than one meter type is submitted for testing, then each meter type is required to be tested against this European Standard. Clauses 1 to 15 and Annex C are for design and type testing only. NOTE See Annex A for production requirements.

The standard specifies requirements for the installation, exchange, relocation and removal of credit or prepayment diaphragm and ultrasonic gas meters with a maximum capacity not exceeding 6 m³/h. NOTE 1 For the purposes of this standard, installation includes design, inspection and commissioning. It is recognized that each of these tasks can be performed by the same person. This part of BS 6400 is applicable to meter installations: a) supplied with 3rd family gases either: 1) from low pressure service pipework with a maximum operating pressure not exceeding 75 mbar and a design maximum incidental pressure of 350 mbar; or 2) from medium pressure service pipework with a maximum operating pressure exceeding 75 mbar but not exceeding 2 bar and a design maximum incidental pressure of 2.7 bar; b) only fitted downstream of the emergency control valve; c) that utilizes a meter regulator downstream of the emergency control valve; d) where all gas fittings subjected to medium pressure have been pre-assembled and where strength and gas tightness testing has been undertaken on the regulator assembly at the factory; e) where the operating pressure at the outlet of the meter is nominally 37 mbar. Installation pipework is specified in BS 5482-1 and LPGA Code of Practice 25 [14]. Service pipework (including the first emergency control valve) is specified in BS 5482-1 and the LPGA Code of Practice 22 [15] and LPGA Code of Practice 25 [14]. This standard does not cover pressure regulating installations installed in a service pipework upstream of the emergency control valve.
