1.1 This International Standard specifies requirements and test methods for the binding mounting areas of cross-country skis, within which parts of the toe-clip binding in accordance with ISO 6960 may be mounted. Different values are specified for two groups of nominal ski lengths, lN: Group 1: 1 750 mm > lN ≤ 2 200 Group 2: 1 300 mm ≤ lN ≤ 1 750 mm It specifically excludes alpine skis. 1.2 A designated binding attachment area, or binding mounting area (see 3.1), shall be provided by the ski manufacturer and shall be the only area of the ski subjected to this test. 1.3 This International Standard covers skis the bindings of which are attached by means of screws in area A1 and screws, nails or other fasteners in areas A2 and A3 (see figure 1 and figure 2). 1.4 Using test screws loaded normal to the ski surface, the test methods specified simultaneously evaluate the tendency of — screws to be pulled out; — skis to delaminate; — screw hole threads to strip.

This International Standard specifies laboratory measurement methods for mass and polar moment of inertia of alpine skis. If laboratory measurement data are determined and published by the ski manufacturer or other institutions, standard measurement procedures are recommended to ensure comparability. This International Standard also specifies a tolerance range which shall be met by the measurement data of all manufactured skis, if for the specific model length measurement data are published by the manufacturer of the ski. NOTE The appropriate ski length should be given with the published measurement data. It is not the purpose of this International Standard to evaluate the measurement data with regard to their influence on the quality of the ski.

This International Standard specifies the requirements, test methods and marking of ski-boots which are used with current systems of alpine ski-bindings with attachment at the boot toe and boot heel, the proper release function of which depends on the dimensions and design of the interfaces. For ski-binding systems that function irrespective of the sole shape or that have different requirements for the sole dimensions, it is not always necessary for the ski-boot soles to comply with this International Standard in order to achieve the desired degree of safety. It applies to ski-boots of sizes 15,0 and larger (types A and C) in the Mondopoint system (see Annex A).

This International Standard specifies methods for the selection of the release torques for alpine ski-bindings in current use, and gives information necessary to determine the release torques. It applies to torque-measuring binding-test machines. It may be inappropriate for non-mechanical bindings or bindings used with boots which reach more than halfway up the lower leg. NOTE Manufacturers may use either of the two specified methods as the basis for their recommended release torques. Release torques are to be recommended for use by ski-binding manufacturers in their instructions for installation and use, and by ski shops for the adjustment of already mounted ski-bindings.
