This technical specification provides principles and technical requirements for distributed energy resources (DERs) connected to the distribution network. It applies to the planning, design, operation and connection of DERs to distribution networks. It includes general requirements, connection scheme, choice of switchgear, normal operating range, immunity to disturbances, active power response to frequency deviation, reactive power response to voltage variations and voltage changes, EMC and power quality, interface protection, connection and start to generate electrical power, active power management, monitoring, control and communication, and conformance tests. This document specifies interface requirements for connection of generating plants with the distribution network operating at a nominal frequency of 50 Hz or 60 Hz. DERs include distributed generation and permanently connected electrical energy storage in the form of synchronous generators, asynchronous generators, converters, etc., connected to the medium voltage (MV) or low voltage (LV) distribution network. NOTE Mobile electrical energy storage devices (e. g. electrical vehicles) are under consideration for future editions. The requirements of this document can be superseded by laws and regulations where applicable.

This part of IEC 62586 specifies functional tests and uncertainty requirements for instruments whose functions include measuring, recording, and possibly monitoring power quality parameters in power supply systems, and whose measuring methods (class A or class S) are defined in IEC 61000-4-30. This document applies to power quality instruments complying with IEC 62586-1. This document can also be referred to by other product standards (e. g. digital fault recorders, revenue meters, MV or HV protection relays) specifying devices embedding class A or class S power quality functions according to IEC 61000-4-30. These requirements are applicable in single-, dual- (split phase) and 3-phase AC power supply systems at 50 Hz or 60 Hz. It is not the intent of this document to address user interface or topics unrelated to device measurement performance. The document does not cover post-processing and interpretation of the data, for example with dedicated software.

This International Standard specifies the loading and strength requirements of overhead lines derived from reliability-based design principles. These requirements apply to lines 45 kV and above, but can also be applied to lines with a lower nominal voltage. This document also provides a framework for the preparation of national standards dealing with overhead transmission lines, using reliability concepts and employing probabilistic or semi-probabilistic methods. These national standards will need to establish the local climatic data for the use and application of this standard, in addition to other data that are country- specific. Although the design criteria in this standard apply to new lines, many concepts can be used to address the design and reliability requirements for refurbishment, upgrading and uprating of existing lines. This document does not cover the detailed design of line components such as supports, foundations, conductors or insulators strings.

1.1 This specification covers carbon fiber reinforced thermoset matrix composite core strength members for use in reinforcing or supporting overhead electrical conductors. 1.2 This specification covers carbon fiber core diameters from 0.180 to 0.500 in. [4.57 to 12.7 mm], inclusive. 1.3 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard.
