This European Standard specifies requirements for adhesives intended for use in the creation and general assembly of Icad-bearing, structural elements used in civil engineering works and the construction of buildings. Other than the exceptions stated, it embraces all combinations of bonded materials, used to create or repair Icad-bearing elements. It covers individual adhesives and special purpose kits comprising various combinations of adhesive types and components. It includes test methods and methods of assessment. The performance requirements in this standard may not be applicable to highly specialised applications in extreme environmental conditions, e.g. cryogenic use, nor do they cover specialised circumstances such as accidental impact, e.g. due to traffic or ice, or earthquake loading where specific performance requirements will apply. The intended use is for internal and external construction elements and those cladding and covering elements (excluding ceramic tiles) specifically required, by regulatory authorities, to provide protection from fire in identified building zones, including escape routes. It does not cover: Prefabricated, bonded structural components. Concrete bonded either to itself or steel or a material based on carbon fibre. Wood, when bonded to itself to form a timber based, laminated beam [of the type known as a 'Glulam' beam] intended for use as a major structural, Icad bearing element. Thermoplastics [e.g. polyethylene, polypropylene, polyamide and fluorinated polymers in general] unless they have been specifically prepared [usually through a specialised oxidative process] for bonded assembly on site. Co-axial metallic assemblies comprising fasteners- threaded and otherwise, pipes and tubes. Glass assemblies in structural glazing applications made using silicone adhesives. Those structural elements that are permanently immersed in water.

Interior flat paints may become burnished in areas where clothing or upholstered furniture rub against a wall. This rubbing may cause a smoother, glossier surface at the contacted area, depending on the level or type of pigments in the paint and binder hardness. This method permits a more quantitative estimate of burnish resistance than those using manual rubbing techniques.1.1 This test method covers a procedure for measuring the resistance of latex paints to burnishing under dry conditions. 1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only. 1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. An adhesive symbol provides an efficient means of placing complete information about adhesives on engineering drawings. The joint is the basis of reference for the symbol to which the arrow line is pointed. The reference line of the symbol is used to designate the type of adhesive to be used, including information about its physical form, chemical technology family, requirements for surface preparation, application method (bead versus roll coat), and cure method. The optional tail (shown at left in Fig. 1) provides a place to include additional information about the adhesive that is not referenced in other notations. Refer to Fig. 1 for an overview schematic of the adhesive symbol denoted by a mast supporting a circle with the letter “A” inside for adhesive. Detail behind each of the elements noted (for example, FORM, CHEM, APPL METH) can be found in corresponding tables in Section 5. FIG. 1 Standard Locations of Elements of the Adhesive Symbol1.1 This practice covers a standard symbol that may be used by the design-engineering community on engineering drawings to indicate a bonded assembly for any type of adhesive. 1.2 This design is based on criteria contained in ANSI/AWS A2.4 as well as ISO 15785. 1.3 The values given in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. End-jointed lumber studs used in fire resistance-rated assemblies shall be able to support the superimposed design load for the specified time under an elevated temperature exposure, when a wall assembly is exposed to a standard fire specified in Test Methods E 119. Light-weight wood assemblies utilize gypsum wallboard or other types of membrane protection to accomplish a requisite fire resistance rating for the assembly. However, wood studs and the end-joints in the studs shall resist the developed elevated temperature environment for the duration of the rating. This practice provides a method for evaluating the elevated temperature performance of an adhesive used in end-jointed lumber as compared with the elevated temperature performance of solid wood. 1.1 This standard practice is to be used to evaluate the elevated temperature performance of adhesives used in end-jointed lumber. 1.2 A symmetric wall assembly containing end-jointed lumber studs is exposed to a standard fire exposure specified in Test Methods E 119. 1.3 The wall assembly shall sustain the applied load during a standard fire exposure specified in Test Methods E 119 for a period of 60 min or more. 1.4 This practice is used to evaluate the performance of adhesives used in end-jointed lumber to heat and flame under controlled conditions, but it does not by itself incorporate all factors required for fire hazard or fire risk assessment under actual fire conditions. 1.5 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard. 1.6 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. This European Standard specifies methods to measure the breaking strength and elongation at break of a self adhesive tape when it is subjected to a tensile force sufficient to cause it to break. The breaking strength of adhesive tape is of value as an indication of its uniformity and quality, and its ability to withstand stresses during application and use. The elongation at break of the adhesive tape is of value as an indication of its uniformity and quality as well as a rough indication of its ability to conform to curved and irregular surfaces. It is usually determined at the same time as the breaking strength. This test method describes a procedure for testing 12 mm or 24 mm wide samples cut from supplied rolls of self adhesive tapes. Alternatively rolls of self adhesive tape up to 50 mm wide may be directly tested in their original width. In these circumstances the practical breaking strength and elongation will be typical of the manufacturer’s cut edges. When newly cut sample pieces are tested, because of the better cutting of the edges, the results can be higher than would be found on commercial tape.
