本标准规定了在一个反射平面上方为自由场的声学测试环境下，在一假想的包络机床的测量表面上测出声压级，经过计算得出声功率级的方法。所得的数据用以评价和比较机床噪声声功率级。 本标准中的测量方法根据声学测试环境和测量要求确定，测量方法分为工程法、准工程法和简易法。工程法及准工程法适用于辐射稳态的、非稳态的宽带噪声或窄带噪声的各类机床，不适用于辐射脉冲噪声和线性尺度超过15m的机床。简易法适用于辐射宽带、窄带、离散频率等稳态噪声的机床。除重复率小于每秒5个的猝发声外，也适用于辐射非稳态噪声的机床。对被测机床的体积不加限制，对于特大尺寸的机床选取主要噪声源的那一部分进行测量。
