Pertains to electronic wide-band transformers transmitting power within a wide band of frequencies covering typically at least one decade in the frequency spectrum. Provision is made for including data for use in the design of feedback amplifiers and control networks or other circuits in which the knowledge of the transformer amplitude and phase-frequency response is needed by the system designer. These transformers are required to transform voltage within specified tolerances of amplitude and phase when operating between specified impedances. Guides to the application and test procedures are included. These appendixes contain certain precautions and recommended practices. The standard also pertains to hybrid transformers, primarily used in the telecommunications industry. The hybrid transformer is a wide-band transformer used in a manner which makes it part of a capacitance, resistance and/or inductance network and it must have characteristics which permit it to match the network for proper overall performance.

This part of IEC 44 applies to newly manufactured current transformers for use with electrical measuring instruments and electrical protective devices at frequencies from 15 Hz to 100 Hz. Although the requirements relate basically to transformers with separate windings, they are also applicable, where appropriate, to autotransformers. Clause 11 covers the requirements and tests, in addition to those in clauses 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10, that are necessary for current transformers for use with electrical measuring instruments. Clause 12 covers the requirements and tests, in addition to those in clauses 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10, that are necessary for current transformers for use with electrical protective relays, and in particular for forms of protection in which the prime requirement is the maintenance of accuracy up to several times the rated current. For certain protective systems, where the current transformer characteristics are dependant on the overall design of the protective equipment (for example, high-speed balanced systems and earth-fault protection in resonant earthed networks), additional requirements are given in clause 13 for class PR transformers and in clause 14 for class PX transformers. Clause 13 covers the requirements and tests in addition to those in clause 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 that are necessary for current transformers for use with electrical protective relays, and in particular for forms of protection in which the prime requirement is the absence of remanent flux. Clause 14 covers the requirements and tests in addition to those in clauses 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 that are necessary for current transformers for use with electrical protective relays, and in particular for forms of protection for which knowledge of the transformer's secondary excitation characteristic, secondary winding resistance, secondary burden resistance and turns ratio is sufficient to assess its performance in relation to the protective relay system with which it is to be used. Current transformers intended for both measurement and protection shall comply with all the clauses of this standard. Instrument transformers (ITs) are considered to be passive elements. NOTE For outdoor ITs having voltages ≥ 123 kV the RIV measurements are suitable to cover the requirements of EMC Directive. For guidance of the test procedure EN 60694:1996, §6.3 might be followed.

This International Standard applies to fixed inductors designed for electromagnetic interference suppression and which fall within the scope of the generic specification, IEC 60938-1. It is restricted to fixed inductors for which safety tests are appropriate. This implies that inductors specified according to this specification will either be connected to mains supplies, when compliance with the mandatory tests of table 1 is necessary, or used in other circuit positions where the equipment specification prescribes that some or all of these safety tests are required. This standard applies to fixed inductors which will be connected to an a.c. mains or other supply with a nominal voltage not exceeding 1 000 V a.c. (r.m.s.) or d.c. between conductors and with a nominal frequency not exceeding 400 Hz.

Although this standard relates basically to transformers with separate windings, it is also applicable, where appropriate, to auto-transformers. This standard does not apply to transformers for use in laboratories. NOTE Requirements specific to three-phase voltage transformers are not included in this standard but, so far as they are relevant, the requirements in clauses 3 to 11 apply to these transformers and a few references to them are included in those clauses (e.g. see 2.1.4, 5.1.1, 5.2, and 11.2). Clause 13 covers the requirements and tests, in addition to those in clauses 3 to 12, that are necessary for single-phase inductive protective voltage transformers. The requirements of clause 13 apply particularly to transformers which are required to have sufficient accuracy to operate protective systems at voltages that occur under fault conditions. Instrument transformers (ITs) are considered to be passive elements. NOTE For outdoor ITs having voltages ≥ 123 kV the RIV measurements are suitable to cover the requirements of the EMC Directive.
