This European Standard specifies the rules and limits that determine permissible speed for a given track alignment. Alternatively, for a specified permissible speed, it defines limits for track alignment design parameters. More restrictive requirements of the High Speed TSI Infrastructure and the Conventional Rail TSI Infrastructure, as well as other (national, company, etc.) rules will apply. This European Standard applies to main lines with track gauges 1435 mm and wider with permissible speeds between 80 km/h and 300 km/h. Annex C (informative) describes the conversion rules which can be applied for tracks with gauges wider than 1435 mm. Normative Annex D is applied for track gauges wider than 1435 mm. However, the values and conditions stated for this speed range can also be applied to lines where permissible speeds are less than 80 km/h, but in this case, more or less restrictive values may need to be used and should be defined in the contract. This European Standard need not be applicable to certain urban and suburban lines. This European Standard also takes account of vehicles that have been approved for high cant deficiencies. For the operation of tilting trains, specific requirements are defined within this European Standard.

To ensure safety and interoperability, this European Standard gives: ? the mandatory limits for in-service and off-vehicle wheelsets; ? the mandatory operations to be carried out for which the specific values (and/or criteria) remain to be defined in the maintenance plan. This document applies to wheelsets complying with the following European Standards: ? EN 12080, EN 12081, EN 12082; ? EN 13103, EN 13104; ? EN 13260, EN 13261, EN 13262; ? EN 13979-1; ? EN 13715, that comprise: ? the axle with wheel diameters greater than or equal to 330 mm; ? axle boxes with bearings and grease. This document is also applicable to wheelsets: ? fitted with brake discs, final drive, transmission or noise-damping systems, as appropriate; ? not complying with the above European Standards, but complying with the international requirements in force before the approval of these standards; ? with tyred wheels whose characteristics are given in Annex D. For bilateral and domestic traffic, this document may be applied, noting that different values may be used. All the dimensions of this document are in millimetres (mm).

This European Standard specifies requirements for grooved rails and associated construction rail profiles for grooved rail facilities with a linear mass of 42 kg/m and upwards for use in tram transport systems. NOTE Grooved rails are also used for harbour and industrial tracks.Six pearlitic steel grades are specified in a hardness range between 200 HBW and 390 HBW. The rails are either non-heat-treated or heat-treated and are made from non-alloyed (C-Mn) steel in both cases.This standard specifies 18 specific grooved rail profiles and 7 specific construction rail profiles. The grooved rail profiles can also be used as construction elements in switches and crossings.Two grooved rail classes are specified differing in requirements for profile tolerances.

This part of EN 13674 specifies flat bottom Vignole railway rails from 27 kg/m to, but excluding 46 kg/m.Five pearlitic steel grades are specified covering a rail hardness range of 200 HBW to 390 HBW and include non heat treated non-alloy steels, non-heat-treated alloy steels and heat-treated non-alloy steels.There are 13 rail profiles specified in this European Standard, but these may not be available in all steel grades.

This European Standard specifies the significant hazards, hazardous situations and events, common to rail bound machines and arising due to the adaptation for their use on railways. These machines are intended for construction, maintenance and inspection of track, structures, infrastructure and fixed electric traction equipment, when they are used as intended and under conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer, see Clause 4. This European Standard applies to railbound machines and other vehicles - referred to as machines - working exclusively on the railway (utilising friction adhesion between the rail and rail wheels) but including machines that in working position are partly supported on the ballast or the formation and used for construction, maintenance and inspection of track, structures, infrastructure and fixed electric traction equipment. This European Standard applies to machines that are intended to operate signalling and control systems. Other similar machines are dealt with in other European Standards, see Annex D. This European Standard specifies the common hazards, in normal circumstances, during running, assembly and installation, commissioning, use (including setting, programming, and process changeover), operation, cleaning, fault finding, maintenance and de-commissioning of the machines. Additional safety measures can be required by exceptional circumstances, such as extreme ambient temperatures (less than – 20 °C or greater than + 40 °C), highly corrosive or contaminating environment; e.g. due to the presence of chemicals, and potentially explosive atmospheres. Air pressure caused by the passing of high-speed trains at more than 190 km/h is also not dealt with.

The scope of this European Standard is: - to establish material requirements for cast austenitic manganese steel for fixed crossings and cradles for crossings with moveable parts designed to be welded or bolted to rails; - to formulate codes of practice for inspection, testing of un-machined and machined heat-treated castings; - to list the methods by which crossings should be identified and traced; - to define limits of weld rectification by the supplier; - special requirements for pre-hardened crossings. Geometrical aspects, as machining tolerances and inspection of finished crossings are covered in EN 13232-6 and EN 13232-7 and therefore not in this European Standard. This European Standard specifies the minimum requirements for cast manganese crossing components. Special applications (for instance tram systems) can require different demands in certain paragraphs and need to be agreed between customer and supplier.
