This Technical Specification describes a test method for measuring a quantity representative of the intrinsic characteristics of sound reflection from railway noise barriers: the reflection index. The test method is intended for the following applications:- determination of the intrinsic characteristics of sound reflection of noise barriers to be installed along railways, to be measured either on typical installations alongside railways or on a relevant sample section; - determination of the in situ intrinsic characteristics of sound reflection of noise barriers and claddings in actual use; - comparison of design specifications with actual performance data after the completion of the construction work; - verification of the long term performance of noise barriers and claddings (with a repeated application of the method). The test method is not intended for the following applications; - determination of the intrinsic characteristics of sound reflection of noise reducing devices to be installed in reverberant conditions, e. g. inside tunnels or deep trenches. Results are expressed as a function of frequency, in one-third octave bands between 100 Hz and 5 kHz. If it is not possible to get valid measurements results over the whole frequency range indicated, the results should be given in a restricted frequency range and the reasons of the restriction (s) should be clearly reported. All noise reducing devices different from noise barriers and related devices acting on airborne sound propagation, e. g. devices for attenuation of ground borne vibration and on board devices are out of the scope of this Technical Specification.

This leaflet deals with the accessibility of European stations and aims to facilitate train journeys At present, a number of European stations have achieved varying levels of accessibility. If additional stations are to make the grade, the quality standards set for station components and dealt with in this leaflet should be taken on board when effecting refurbishments or repairs or for new construction projects. All these standards must be applied gradually. In this way, it will be possible to achieve the degree of accessibility required to attract more passengers. These quality standards should enable all passengers, including those with reduced mobility, to travel throughout Europe by train with a satisfactory level of comfort in a non-discriminatory way, secure in the knowledge that carriers and passenger terminal managers have provided compatible facilities to guarantee them access to stations. Moreover, it is accepted that steps need to be taken to harmonise the interchange facilities laid on for transfer between modes in the transport chain. Be that as it may, this leaflet does not address problems connected with intermodality or arising outside the station. By steadily improving station accessibility it will be possible to guarantee all passengers peace of mind when travelling. In this way, their mobility and autonomy can be bolstered and their interaction with society increased.

This leaflet sets out the technical conditions which must be met so that roller units basically designed for conveyance on road vehicles may also be carried without difficulty by rail. The roller units described in this leaflet can only be transported by rail on special wagons. As a general rule, there is no obligation on railways to undertake transhipment. Any exception to this rule shall be subject to specific agreements with railways in which the specific rules applicable under particular conditions shall be clearly defined. The rules laid out in this document mainly cover permissible dimensions, securing devices on wagons, the strength of the roller units and their identification markings. Containers and roller units already covered by UIC Leaflets 592-2 to 592-4 (see Bibliography .- page 28) do not fall within the scope of this leaflet.
