The document specifies the technical conditions of delivery for anodized products of wrought aluminium and wrought aluminium alloys, used preferably in metall finishing. It does not apply to products with oxidation coatings produced by hard anodic axidation (process) for technical purposes, products with oxidation coatings produced by coil anodic axidation (process) and products worked after anodic oxidation.

This Part of BS 6161 describes a method of measuring the total reflectance of flat surfaces of anodized aluminium using a photoelectric reflectometer. This Part of this British Standard describes an accelerated method for determining the light fastness of coloured anodic oxidation coatings, using artificial light. The method is applicable to coloured anodic oxidation coatings on aluminium and its alloys, produced by any means and for any purpose. It is suitable for quality control testing of coloured anodic oxidation coatings whose light fastness rating has already been established by means of outdoor exposure testing. It is not suitable for the evaluation of coloured anodic oxidation coatings with a light fastness rating of less than 6. NOTE 1. This method is not suitable for evaluating light fastness under exterior exposure, as only outdoor testing under conditions comparable to actual service is completely satisfactory. NOTE 2. 1.1 This specification covers requirements for electrolytically formed porous oxide coatings on aluminum and aluminum alloy parts in which appearance, abrasion resistance, electrical properties, and protection against corrosion are important. Nonporous, barrier layer anodic coatings used for electrical capacitors are not covered. Seven types of coatings as shown in are provided. Definitions and typical examples of service conditions are provided in Appendix X1. Note 18212;It is recognized that uses exist in which modifications of the coatings covered by this specification may be required. In such cases the particular properties desired by the purchaser should be the subject of agreement between the purchaser and the manufacturer.
