1.1 This terminology brings together and clarifies the basic terms and definitions used with scientific grade cooled chargecoupled device (CCD) detectors, thus allowing end users and vendors to use common documented terminology when evaluating or discussing these instruments. CCD detectors are sensitive to light in the region from 200 nm to 1100 nm and the terminology outlined in the document is based on the detection technology developed around CCDs for this range of the spectrum. 1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard. 1.3 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

This part of ISO 5 establishes terms, symbols, functional notations and a coordinate system to describe geometric and spectral conditions for the measurement of the degree to which a specimen modulates radiant flux for applications in photography, graphic technology, and radiometry. This part of ISO 5 primarily provides a system for describing methods of measuring or specifying the transmission and reflection properties of photographic and graphic arts materials. The geometric and spectral conditions associated with such measurement are specified in ISO 5-2, ISO 5-3 and ISO 5-4.

This International Standard gives terms for and definitions of pre-packaged chemicals used in the processing of silver halide based photographic materials, to permit correct usage. This International Standard does not restrict the manufacturer from adding additional information, but care shall be taken to ensure that this information is not in conflict with the information in this International Standard. Requirements on hazard warnings, name and address of manufacturer or supplier, net content, etc., are not included, as national regulations vary throughout the world. NOTE — In addition to the terms and definitions given in the two official ISO languages (English and French), this International Standard gives the equivalent terms in German, Spanish, Swedish, Italian and Czech. These terms are included at the request of the technical committee ISO/TC 42, and are published under the responsibility of the member body concerned. However, only the terms and definitions given in the official languages can be considered as ISO terms and definitions.

ISO 9211 identifies surface treatments of components and substrates excluding ophthalmic optics (spectacles) by the application of optical coatings and gives a standard form for their specification. It defines the general characteristics and the test and measurement methods whenever necessary, but is not intended to define the process method. This part of ISO 9211 defines terms relevant to optical coatings. These terms are grouped in four classes: basic definitions, definition of coatings by function, definitions of common coating imperfections and other definitions.
