この規格は，圧力スイング吸着装置(以下，装置という。)()に関する用語について規定する。注()吸着剤を入れた筒状の容器に原料ガスを供給し，高い圧力下で吸着させる操作と低い圧力下で脱離させる操作とを繰り返し，原料ガス中の成分を濃縮・分離することによって，必要とする製品ガスを得る装置。この操作をPSA (pressure swing adsorption)操作といい，したがって，この装置をPSA装置ということもある。
