This document specifies a method for the determination of constituent materials of a test sample cut from a glass-reinforced plastics (GRP) component intended for use in a piping system. It includes determination of resin, glass, aggregate and filler contents. It is also applicable to the determination of the type and arrangement of the reinforcements. If used to determine the amounts of constituent materials in layered constructions it may be necessary to separate the laminate layers by cutting or splitting and testing each separately.

This International Standard specifies a method to determine the resistance to slow crack growth (SCG) of polyethylene materials, pipes, and fittings. The test is applicable to samples taken from compression moulded sheet or extruded pipes and injection moulded fittings of suitable thickness. This International Standard provides a method that is suitable for an accelerated fracture-mechanics characterization at ambient temperatures of 23 °C of different polyethylene grades, especially for PE 80 and PE 100 types for pipe applications. NOTE This test method could be adapted for other thermoplastics materials by developing the procedure using different test parameters.

This International Standard specifies a method for the determination of the strain hardening modulus which is used as a measure for the resistance to slow crack growth of polyethylene. The strain hardening modulus is obtained from stress-strain curves on compression moulded samples. This International Standard describes how such measurement is performed and how the strain hardening modulus shall be determined from such a curve. Details of the required equipment, precision, and sample preparation for the generation of meaningful data are given. This International Standard provides a method that is valid for all types of polyethylene, independent from the manufacturing technology, comonomer, catalyst type, that are used for pipes and fittings applications. NOTE This method could be developed for materials for other applications.

3.1 This practice is applicable to distinguish between properly and improperly molded PVC plastic pipe fittings. It can be used to: 3.1.1 Determine whether cold slugs or unfused areas are present (Note 2), 3.1.2 Determine the amount of molded-in stress produced by the molding process (Note 3), 3.1.3 Reveal contamination, and 3.1.4 Show the quality of the weld line. Note 2: A cold slug is a piece of material that enters the mold at a significantly lower temperature than the rest of the mass. Note 3: A stress-free part will generally have better properties and higher strength than those with a high degree of stress. Stress-free parts will generally react better when exposed to chemicals. 1.1 This practice covers a procedure for evaluating the quality of molded poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) plastic pipe fittings after exposure to heat. 1.2 Units—The values stated in either inch-pound or SI units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the standard. Note 1: The values in square brackets are SI units requirements. 1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
