Gas Transmission and Distribution Piping Systems
Managing System Integrity of Gas Pipelines
This Criteria Document provides guidance to potential users of the proposed ASME Appendix B31.8R on Reliability Based Design and Assessment (RBDA) by documenting the relevant background information required to fully understand the requirements of the Appendix and to apply them correctly in decision making.
CRITERIA FOR RELIABILITY -BASED DESIGN AND ASSESSMENT FOR ASME B31.8 CODE
This report reviews the ASME derating factors, identifies the range of line pipe steel grades that may be affected and the potential impacts to ASME pipeline and piping design standards, and makes recommendations for further study or experimental investigation as necessary.

Gas Transmission and Distribution Piping Systems
This Code covers the design, fabrication, installation, inspection, testing, and other safety aspects of operation and maintenance of gas transmission and distribution piping systems, including gas pipelines, gas compressor stations, gas metering and regulation stations, gas mains, and service lines up to the outlet of the customer's meter set assembly. The scope of this Code includes gas transmission and gathering pipelines, including appurtenances, that are installed offshore for the purpose of transporting gas from production facilities to onshore locations; gas storage equipment of the closed pipe type that is fabricated or forged from pipe or fabricated from pipe and fittings; and gas storage lines.
Gas Transmission and Distribution Piping Systems
This document applies to on-shore pipeline systems constructed with ferrous materials and that transport gas. This includes all parts of physical facilities through which gas is transported, including pipe, valves, appurtenances attached to pipe, compressor units, metering stations, regulator stations, delivery stations, holders and fabricated assemblies. The principles and processes embodied in integrity management are applicable to all pipeline systems. This Standard is specifically designed to provide the operator with the information necessary to develop and implement an effective integrity management program utilizing proven industry practices and processes. The processes and approaches within this Standard are applicable to the entire pipeline system.

This Standard applies to onshore pipeline systems constructed with ferrous materials and that transport gas. Pipeline system means all parts of physical facilities through which gas is transported, including pipe, valves, appurtenances attached to pipe, compressor units, metering stations, regulator stations, delivery stations, holders, and fabricated assemblies. The principles and processes embodied in integrity management are applicable to all pipeline systems. This Standard is specifically designed to provide the operator (as defined in para. 13) with the information necessary to develop and implement an effective integrity management program utilizing proven industry practices and processes. The processes and approaches within this Standard are applicable to the entire pipeline system.
Managing System Integrity of Gas Pipelines
This Code covers the design, fabrication, installation, inspection, and testing of pipeline facilities used for the transportation of gas. This Code also covers safety aspects of the operation and maintenance of those facilities.
