建筑防水即为防止水对建筑物某些部位的渗透而从建筑材料上和构造上所采取的措施。防水材料的种类，按原材料来分，有沥青类防水材料、橡胶塑料类防水材料、水泥类防水材料、金属类防水材料。防水涂料有四大类：硬性灰浆、柔性灰浆、丙烯酸酯、单组分聚氨酯。按性状，防水材料还有防水卷材、聚氨酯防水材料、聚合物水泥基防水材料之分。

沥青瓦(Bitumen shingles or asphalt shingle)又称玻纤瓦， 油毡瓦， 玻纤胎沥青瓦。沥青瓦主要材质是沥青，是新型的高新防水建材同时也是应用于建筑屋面防水的一种新型屋面材料，具有造型多样、色彩丰富、隔热保温、重量轻、施工简便、经久耐用、防水、耐腐蚀、抗风、防尘等优点，同时也具有易老化、粘结力有限及阻燃性差的缺点。
