This document gives equivalent terms and their definition for machinery safety in the three official languages of CEN and CENELEC. The terms included are those which have been identified as being fundamental to machinery safety standards because their equivalence and definition are necessary to avoid ambiguity and ensure consistency of use.
These definitions have been extracted without change from A and B mandated standards. The origin is indicated precisely under the English version of the definitions, by giving the EN number with clause and subclause. The terms and definitions given shall be used when drafting machinery safety standards.
NOTE 1 : In addition to terms used in the three official CEN/CENELEC languages (English, French and German), this European Prestandard gives the equivalent terms in the Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Italian, Norwegian, Spanish and Swedish languages ; these are published under the responsibility of the National Committee/member body for Denmark, Finland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain and Sweden. However, only the terms and definitions given in the official languages can be considered as EN terms and definitions.
