This standard describes the methods; a) for the determination of the soluble and unsoluble binder content of asphalt and; b) for the recuperation of the binder for further tests. The mineral matter simultaneously obtained may also be used for further tests. The soluble binder content is determined by the extraction of the binder by means of cold or hot (not simmering) solvents or by means of hot (in the cycle simmering and condensating) solvents. The standard contains different procedures depending on the type of binder such as bitumen, fluxed bitumen, rapid curing cutback bitumen and road tar.
