This standard specifies requirements for the universal design of developed outdoor areas, in order to help ensure that everyone can have access to areas that provide opportunities for outdoor activities, outdoor recreation, recreation, participation and social interaction.
This standard covers developed outdoor areas in connection with buildings and facilities, green infrastructure, natural and outdoor recreation areas and transportation facilities.
The standard covers requirements for planning, execution and projects, elements and equipment. In order to achieve universal design, it is necessary that the interrelationship between the various projects be emphasised and considered comprehensively.
It makes requirements that universal design be emphasised throughout the entire life cycle of the project, both during planning and engineering and in the choice of solutions, products and execution, but the standard does not cover requirements pertaining to management, operation and maintenance.
The standard also includes recommendations that help facilitate increased accessibility in cases where universal design cannot be achieved.
