This International Standard lays down the graphical symbols and the corresponding referents in the English, French, Russian, German, Spanish and Italian languages in the field of textile machinery. The graphical symbols dealt with in this International Standard are destined to be a) placed on equipment or parts of equipment of any kind of textile machinery in order to instruct the persons handling the equipment or parts of equipment as to their setting in operation and functioning; b) used for the representation of a state, function or operation wherever this may be, and in documents such as drawings, maps and diagrams. NOTE — In addition to referents used in the three official ISO languages (English, French and Russian), this International Standard gives the equivalent referents in the German, Spanish and Italian languages; these have been included at the request of ISO Technical Committee ISO/TC 72 and are published under the responsibility of the member bodies for German DIN), Switzerland SNV), Spain AENOR and Italy UNI). However, only the referents given in the official languages can be considered as ISO referents. This International Standard specifies the symbols, i.e. conventional signs, used to identify certain controls, indicators and tell-tales on a motorcycle1) and to facilitate their usage 2). This International Standard also indicates the colours of possible optical tell-tales which warn the driver of the operation or malfunctioning of the related devices and equipment. This International Standard is applicable to those controls, indicators and tell-tales, which, when used, are fitted on the instrument panel or in the immediate vicinity of the motorcycle rider.

This International Standard establishes principles and gives requirements for the design of single-panel product safety labels intended to be permanently affixed to manually portable agricultural and forestry machines and powered lawn and garden equipment. The main usage of these labels is on machines and equipment where the available space for locating product safety information is very limited, and where multi-panel labels are not necessary for conveying the essential safety messages.

This International Standard defines the conditions of utilization of the recycling symbol of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) associated with the chemical symbols indicating the electrochemical system of the battery. This standard applies to lead-acid batteries (Pb) and nickel-cadmium batteries (Ni-Cd). NOTE — The term "battery" as used throughout this standard covers batteries constituted of several single cells as well as single cells distributed and used separately. In all cases cells have to be marked individually with the exception of those constituting a battery or a subassembly that cannot be dismantled. For example, traction batteries and stationary batteries should be marked on or near the type plate only. The object of this standard is to present recommendations concerning the size of the symbol and its location on the surface of the cells and batteries or on the packages of button cells.
