1.1 This practice covers the following procedures for performing visual inspections on asbestos abatement projects: 1.1.1 Establishing the need for the extent of the required abatement before the work begins. 1.1.2 Determining the progress of the work and the quality of work procedures during the work, and 1.1.3 Evaluating the completeness of the abatement and the cleanliness of the work area prior to, and subsequent to, final air testing for clearance. 1.2 The procedures discussed herein are intended to be used on a project performed under a contract between a building owner and an abatement contractor. 1.2.1 The responsibilities of the possible participants in such a project such as an architect, construction engineer, consultant, industrial hygienist, and a testing laboratory, should be described in the contract documents. 1.2.2 The concepts and methods are also applicable in varying degrees to repair and maintenance operations (small-scale), including work performed by the building owner's employees. 1.3 This practice provides the following information: 1.3.1 The objectives of the visual inspection process; 1.3.2 The responsibilities and qualifications of the individuals involved in the visual inspection, 1.3.3 The schedule of visual inspection activities during an abatement project and operations and maintenance (Oand;and;M) work; 1.3.4 The inspection procedures for the various types of abatement work and Oand;and;M tasks; and 1.3.5 The criteria for certifying work as complete on the basis of the visual inspections. 1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. Diese ?NORM ist anzuwenden, wenn radioaktive Abf?lle wie inaktive Abf?lle entsorgt werden sollen und die dafür gelten-den Freigabegrenzwerte nur nach einer entsprechenden Abklingdauer unterschritten werden k?nnen. Gegenstand dieser ?NORM sind nur solche Abf?lle, die offene radioaktive Stoffe mit einer Halbwertszeit bis zu 100 Tagen enthalten und in Beh?ltern gesammelt und gelagert werden. Auch die M?glichkeit von unvermeidbaren Verunreinigungen mit langlebigen Radionukliden wird berücksichtigt (siehe 4.5 bzw. 9.3.2). Sollen flüssige radioaktive Abf?lle aufgrund einer Strahlenschutz-rechtlichen Bewilligung mit dem Betriebsabwasser entfernt werden und ist dabei eine entsprechende Abklingdauer zu be-achten, so ist ebenfalls nach dieser ?NORM vorzugehen. Hingegen ist das Abklingenlassen flüssiger radioaktiver Abf?lle in Abklinganlagen nicht Gegenstand dieser ?NORM (diesbezüglich wird auf ?NORM S 2601 verwiesen). Für Betriebe, in denen radioaktive Abf?lle anfallen, werden in dieser ?NORM die für das Abklingenlassen zu schaffenden Voraussetzungen und erforderlichen Ma?nahmen dargelegt. Für Betriebe (Abteilungen), die radioaktive Abf?lle von anderen Institutionen (bzw. von anderen Abteilungen desselben Be-triebes) zum Zwecke des Abklingenlassens übernehmen, wird darüber hinaus auf die zus?tzlich geltenden organisa-torischen Bestimmungen gem?? 8.2 hingewiesen. Die Anwendung dieser Norm stellt somit die Voraussetzungen für eine ordnungsgem??e ?bergabe des abgeklungenen Ab-falls an einen befugten Entsorgungsbetrieb sicher. Umschlossene radioaktive Stoffe sind nicht Gegenstand dieser ?NORM. Die Entsorgung des abgeklungenen, nicht mehr als radioaktiv zu betrachtenden, sondern wie inaktiv zu behandelnden Ab-falls ist ebenfalls nicht Gegenstand dieser ?NORM. ANMERKUNG: Es wird darauf hingewiesen, da? die Entsorgung radioaktiver Abf?lle an eine strahlenschutzrechtliche Bewilligung ge-bunden ist, sofern der Umgang mit den radioaktiven Stoffen der Bewilligungspflicht oder der Besitz der Meldepflicht nach dem Strahlenschutzgesetz unterliegt.

5.1 This test method provides sufficient PCB data for many regulatory requirements. While the most common regulatory level is 508201;ppm (dry weight corrected), lower limits are used in some locations. Since sensitivities will vary for different types of samples, one shall demonstrate a sufficient method detection limit for the matrix of interest. 5.2 This test method differs from Test Method D4059 in that it provides for more sample clean-up options, utilizes a capillary column for better pattern recognition and interference discrimination, and includes both a qualitative screening and a quantitative results option. 1.1 This test method2 covers a two-tiered analytical approach to PCB screening and quantitation of liquid and solid wastes, such as oils, sludges, aqueous solutions, and other waste matrices. 1.2 Tier I is designed to screen samples rapidly for the presence of PCBs. 1.3 Tier II is used to determine the concentration of PCBs, typically in the range of from 28201;mg/kg8201;to 508201;mg/kg. PCB concentrations greater than 50 mg/kg are determined through analysis of sample dilutions. 1.4 This is a pattern recognition approach, which does not take into account individual congeners that might occur, such as in reaction by-products. This test method describes the use of Aroclors3 1016, 1221, 1232, 1242, 1248, 1254, 1260, 1262, and 1268, as reference standards, but others could also be included. Aroclors 1016 and 1242 have similar capillary gas chromatography (GC) patterns. Interferences or weathering are especially problematic with Aroclors 1016, 1232, and 1242 and may make distinction between the three difficult. 1.5 This test method provides sample clean up and instrumental conditions necessary for the determination of Aroclors. Gas chromatography (GC) using capillary column separation technique and electron capture detector (ECD) are described. Other detectors, such as atomic emission detector (AED) and mass spectrometry (MS), may be used if sufficient performance (for example, sensitivity) is demonstrated. Further details about the use of GC and ECD are provided in Practices E355, E697, and E1510. 1.6 Quantitative results are reported on the dry weights of waste samples. 1.7 Quantification limits will vary depending on the type of waste stream being analyzed. 1.8 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard.
