1.1 This specification covers cold-formed welded carbon steel hollow structural sections (HSS) for welded or bolted construction. These shapes are utilized in but not limited to the following applications: buildings, bridges, towers, cranes, sign supports and poles, off-shore production and drilling platforms, roll-over protective structures (ROPS), falling object protective structures (FOPS), and amusement rides. 1.2 This HSS is produced in welded sizes with a periphery of 88 in. [2235 mm] or less, and a specified nominal wall thickness of 0.148 in. [3.8 mm] or greater and 1.000 in. [25.4 mm] or less. 1.3 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. Within the text, the SI units are shown in brackets. 1.1 This specification covers three grades of seam-welded, round, tapered steel tubes for structural use. Grades A and B are of low-carbon steel or high-strength low-alloy steel composition and Grade C is of weather-resistant steel composition. 1.1.1 The product may be modified from its round cross section into other shapes without subsequent retesting. 1.2 This tubing is produced in welded sizes in a range of diameters from 2 3⁄8 to 30 in. [60 to 762 mm] inclusive. Wall thicknesses range from 0.1046 to 0.375 in. [2.66 to 9.53 mm]. 1.1 This specification covers electric-fusion (arc)-welded straight seam or spiral seam steel casing pipe NPS 10 (Note 1) and larger in diameter (outside diameter as specified by purchaser) with wall thickness 0.200 in. [5.1 mm] or greater. It shall be permissible to specify and furnish pipe having other dimensions provided such pipe complies with all other requirements of this specification. The pipe is intended for use as casing or encasement in horizontal underground boring, tunneling, or open trench applications. 1.2 This specification is expressed in both inch-pound units and in SI units; however, unless the purchase order or contract specifies the applicable M specification designation (SI units), the inch-pound units shall apply.
