1 Scope 1.1 General This Standard provides criteria in accordance with the National Building Code of Canada, for the structural design and evaluation of structures or structural elements made from wood or wood products, including: a) graded lumber; b) glued-laminated timber; c) cross-laminated timber (CLT); d) unsanded plywood; e) oriented strand board (OSB); f) composite building components; g) shearwalls and diaphragms; h) timber piling; i) pole-type construction; j) prefabricated wood I-joists; k) structural composite lumber; l) permanent wood foundations; m) plank decking; n) nail-laminated decking; and o) structural connections. 1.2 Exclusions This Standard does not include design of timber bridges. 1.3 Design method This Standard employs the limit states design method. 1.4 Terminology In this Standard, “shall” is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; “should” is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; “may” is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the Standard. Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a Clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material. Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements. Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application. 1.5 Units If a value for measurement as given in this Standard is followed by an equivalent value in other units, the first stated value is to be regarded as the specification.

1.1 This specification covers standardizing the dimensions and materials for the manufacture of 25⁄8 and 4-in. diameter steel or cast iron shear plates used in the fabrication of connections in wood constructions. The referencing of this specification in design, construction, and purchase order documents gives the using parties assurance that the shear plates to be used in an assembly meet minimum materials quality standards and that dimensions for fabrication and finish can be relied on to ensure connection performance. This specification provides regulatory agencies with a set of standards by which to judge the acceptability of shear plates encountered in the field and in fabricators’ shops. 1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard. 1.3 Safety Hazards—There are no known hazards with the use of this specification. What is ISO 16696-1 about?   ISO 16696-1 is the first part of multiple series that establishes the basic principles for component performance and minimum production requirements for cross-laminated timber (CLT). This document gives methods of determination of characteristic values for a defined population of mechanical connections between timber components, calculated from full scale test values. It presents methods for the determination of: a) slip modulus of mechanical connections; b) characteristic strength of connections subjected to either monotonic or cyclic loads. Glued connections are excluded from the scope of this document. NOTE 1 It is assumed that the failure mode is the same for all specimens in the sample. NOTE 2 When a small number of test results is available, ISO 12122-6 is used for the determination of the mean and the 5th percentile values. 1   Scope This document specifies grading procedures for visually and mechanically sorting round, or pole, bamboo for structural applications using such fundamental elements. Visual sorting is based on observable characteristics of the piece(s). Mechanical sorting is based on non-destructive measurement of properties known to correlate to characteristic values defining a grade. The grading procedures in this document can be used in a quality acceptance regime, although this document does not define or address acceptance criteria. This document is applicable only for bamboo that is graded in the seasoned state.

1.1 These test methods cover transverse load testing to determine the structural properties of wall segments. 1.2 These test methods serve to evaluate the performance of wall panels subject to transverse bending loads applied perpendicular to the plane of the wall. The tests are conducted on horizontal or vertical specimens under two-point loading. It also shall be permitted to apply uniform load using an air bag or a vacuum chamber. Depending upon the configuration tested, these loads are intended to evaluate the transverse deflection, permanent set, and maximum flexural capacity or planar shear capacity, or both, of the wall segment. These test methods are not intended for the evaluation of individual structural framing or supporting members (floor joist, decking, etc.), or both. The connections between the vertical elements of the wall segment and the surrounding construction are excluded from the scope of these methods and shall be evaluated by alternative means. 1.3 Notes and footnotes in this standard provide explanatory material. These notes and footnotes, excluding those in tables and figures, shall not be considered as requirements of this standard. 1.4 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. 1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. This document provides standard test methods for determining the vertical load, axial load and torsional moment capacity as well as deflection characteristics of preformed three-dimensional joist hangers that are used primarily for securing one timber member to another (the header can be concrete or masonry). The joist hangers primarily transfer vertical loads from the supported member to the supporting member, but they can also be required to transfer axial loads from the supported member to the supporting member. NOTE 1 Structural steel sections can also be substituted as the header, but are not covered in this document. NOTE 2 One secondary mechanism to be considered is the effect of rotation of the supported member about its longitudinal axis on the joist hanger.
